What production? Is there any other reason for this discussion?
The production that made him 17th in PPG for players under 22 in the last decade. He will be fine. Pay more attention then just stat watching. He’s also been one of the unluckiest players in the league according to advanced stats and his linemates are up there as well. Cutter has hit like 4 crossbars while on this line.

So he passes the eye test. Passes the advanced stats test. Has a history of performing great offensively and is in elite company from his younger years (2 years ago with and injury riddled unlucky season in between).

You know what though. Silly me let’s not let all these facts get in the way. He’s a loser who can only Michigan.

Zegras reminds me a bit of Kent Johnson, though Zegras had much more success early on. Both are "skill' players struggling to find their way in the NHL. I thought Johnson looked vg early on this season, then he got injured. Apparently he really trained his body in the off season, and the result was that he was faster and stronger, which made quite a difference in what he could do in the NHL. Marco Rossi is another offensive guy who has struggled to make his game work in the pros, but has finally started to make an impact after two straight off seasons where he worked like a dog. He'll never bully people, or blwo them away with speed, but he is significantly faster and stronger than he was.

I wonder if Zegras needs to do something similar. He has decent height and reach, but a slim build. He'll never be a power forward, nor does he need to be, but he strikes me as the sort of guy who could be really be effective if he was just a bit stronger and faster.
He’s worked on that but def can still continue, he’s also putting in the effort in his game defensively in all 3 zones.

It’s just a matter of balancing all of it…. The whole ducks team has been pretty bad tho…. Right now I think it’s just his confidence being shot…. Needs a couple bounces to hopefully get his confidence going and he’ll be fine

Zegras' expected goal share is really good since moving to C. His line generates more chances than they give up.

Problem is, he's creating chances but no one is scoring.

Same problem with Carlsson, actually ... Leo has only 2 assists thus far, and not because he's a shoot first center.

At this point only Terry is doing well, which is not surprising since he has the most individualist game of all of them.

Fans keep saying that, but these threads come back every season.

You are a little bit liberal with your "elite" description. But maybe you could clarify. He was in elite company whe he was younger?

I don’t think he was Elite no. He had holes in his game he has been patching up.

The 16 guys ahead of him in PPG minimum 100 games 22 and under was quite a list though. Many elite players on that.

Every season….. talk about being liberal. So after 14 games this season and an injury riddled season last year where when he finally recovered was absolutely fine.

Shame that he isn't delivering, when you watch him, he is not just overhyped Michigan guy, he is very expectional puck-handler and his creativity is amazing. And he proved that on his first season. I guess he is just a head-case, too arrogant with his skills to do the work others are willing to do.

But he still absolutely has ability to become great player still, with change of environment or at least change of coaching. Patrick Kane isn't hard worker either.

The problem with the last sentence is that although he is talented and has more potential than he’s showing, he is not even close to Patty Kane talentwise.

Anaheim is a team that will be very interesting to see how they turn out. Lots of young talent but some of them are pretty overrated imo (Gauthier, Sennecke). But also some that are great and may even be underrated (Carlsson, Mctavish)

I'm not sure about those evaluation of players. Sennecke was called a horrible/one of the worst 3rd overall picks. No one really has rated him highly outside of Ducks scouts (even a lot of Ducks fans were mad at the pick). It's a little early to say if he's wortg a top 3 pick.

Gauthier has looked pretty decent, he's actually looked better than McTavish. Not nearly the 1 dimensional shooter a lot of people thought. His shot is good, but he just hits so many posts. He definitely looks like a rookie on a struggling team, but once he starts finding the back of the net he's the exact type of player the Ducks have been lacking.

Carlsson is probably true. He's not putting up points (no one can bury his passes) and has been on the PK and playing defense. His skating isn't an issue like it was said pre draft, actually it might be a strength.

McTavish has not been good this season. Maybe he's been playing through something? Beginning of last season he was amazing, but after the injury last year he's been a penalty machine. At the moment, he may be overrated one based on the past year.

Next couple of years will be big for development. If Verbeek screws it up, they may end up like the Sabers (minus the lotto luck).

Granted, his draft status was mostly based on the 2nd half of the season. But early on this year, it sure looks like that wasn't a flash in the pan.

Gauthier has looked pretty decent, he's actually looked better than McTavish.

Early on, no, he definitely struggled out of the gate. But lately, most definitely looks pretty good.

Carlsson is probably true. He's not putting up points (no one can bury his passes) and has been on the PK and playing defense. His skating isn't an issue like it was said pre draft, actually it might be a strength.

Both Carlsson and Zegras have 2 assists each ... which is not at all indicative of how either is playing. They're both creating plenty of chances, as evidenced by Gauthier leading the NHL in shot attempts/60.

McTavish has not been good this season. Maybe he's been playing through something? Beginning of last season he was amazing, but after the injury last year he's been a penalty machine. At the moment, he may be overrated one based on the past year.

He is far far more overrated on these boards than Zegras. You may be right that he's playing through something, but until we know (as we found out that Zegras was playing hurt last year) it's hard to give him a pass. Most of his points this year are garbage time points ... he's spent a lot of time doing a whole lot of nothing otherwise, besides blowing defensive assignments and committing lazy penalties.
