Unless Steeg is injured at the start of the season, there is currently no room for Barkov on the top 3 lines. Hence, the Gomez signing may signal that Barkov may take longer to recover from his shoulder surgery that some have suggested.

The signing of Gomez is a signal of Winchester's status, not Barkov's. I bet you all of my vcash, . Take Barkov, Matthias, Goc, and Gomez... any configuration you want where Barkov is in the top 3 is what we'll see come October.

Barkov was skating on the ice shooting pucks during development camp, he just was not cleared for contact at that time. I would imagine he should be good to go for the start of the season and would earn a spot in the top 3 lines.
