Yeah we're gonna have to call a holding the stick penalty on Darrell's right leg. That clown Wes McCauley would love to skate to centre ice and make that call on the microphone.

I actually can't believe people thought Wes was ever a good ref just because of his "funny" (they weren't) hot mic announcements of penalties. This guy is as bad as Chris Lee, who might be the worst ref in North America tied with Kozari and that other idiot that Vancouver fans think is out to get them, but really they just needed excuses for losing to Edmonton in the playoffs last year and that was their safety net to cope with before the games were even played.

There was also the interference pick play that went uncalled by Boeser as he prevent RNH from getting towards the point to pressure Miller. Really seams like there's a directive to try and help the underdog teams win to promote gambling odds.

The Oilers are currently are 27th in the league in PP opportunities per game, makes little sense when McDavid and Draisaitl are hacked and hooked all game and rarely get a call.

What a shocker, the thread on the mains about the Myers cross check was locked.

Can’t have too much bashing going the other way

Garland admitting he was holding down McDavid should help the Oilers case at his hearing.

It also should alert the league that they may need to close this loophole. If the refs feel an infraction was done intentionally to circumvent the delayed penalty situation in the last minute, they will let play proceed. If time expiries without a goal or change in possession, they can call the penalty and roll back the clock to the time of the infraction.

In 8 games J.Brown has 9PIM. I don’t recall him fighting anyone. We’ve needed him to answer the bell a few times and we’ve got nothing, what is the point of this player? If Knob is going to keep dressing him he needs his head examined.

On my toughness point, it's this right here.

Brown can hold his own vs. anyone in fight. Great, but he doesn't give the opposition a reason to ever fight him.

Or more to the point, he doesn't do anything to get the target off of McDrai's back and onto his own when it comes to the opposition's ire. Go run over Teddy Blueger and have Vancouver focus on chasing you around for half the game.

Yeah that’s what I don’t get about him. He is supposed to be our enforcer but look at the end of the game, he tries to tangle with the guy lined opposite to him but the Canuck is smarter than he is and just skates away.

What he should’ve done is stand a bit away from the dot and as soon as the puck dropped he should’ve sprinted towards the dot taken the head off the Canucks’ centreman. Or he should’ve just made a b-line for Demko and just ran him over. Send a f***ing message.

Their team has looked like dogsh** since last All-Star Break.

Drama central

TJ Reset Miller looks like he is going to be traded

They have nothing going for them hockey wise. That's what trolls generally are in real life. People who are unhappy and find a moment of happiness and getting off trying to rile people up.

Can't feed into losers like that. I would ignore that thread. Physically click the ignore thread button. It makes life easier around the boards

I’m not even talking about the mains lmaoooo

Seems like the Canucks only game plan for the Oilers is to cross check Oiler players in the face. Soucy in the playoffs, now Myers.

Personally, I think McDavid will get a $5K fine or maybe a 1 game suspension. Garland was basically molesting him that whole sequence and the refs doing f*** all as they always do, should have intervened by skating over and yelling at him to let him go. Myers on the other hand, is standing still when Bouchard skates over to him and telegraphs taking his mouthguard out. Myers waits until he drops his arm down and drills him in the chiclets.

But we know how the league works. Wouldn’t surprise me if Myers gets the fine and McDavid gets the suspension.

When is the league ever going to hold the refs accountable unless they're painted into a corner because a ref said the quiet part out loud over the mic?

They should be held to the same regard with lost games or fines for bullshit reffing. That’ll get the refs attention pretty quick but I know better than this. Any negative publicity is good publicity to Bettman.

I’m surprised the amount of whinny shocked snowflakes on the mains crying about what happened. Like this is the first or last time something like this has or will happen. To me it’s a f*** around and find out moment when adrenaline was running high. Personally I didn’t mind what happened because no one got hurt. Even the cross check on Bouch had me laughing. Atlest it wasn’t a Bertuzzi:dunno:

I’d love for Connor to tell the league to f*** off and sit at home during the 4 nations cup.
Mcdavid has to much pride to do that. Refs should have called the penalty but Mcdavid cross checked a midget in the head so there has to be a standard set for everyone that attacks midgets. We need to live in a world where midgets like Garland can run free and hump all the legs they want.

McD could do it differently. Game was essentially over anyway. A real way to get a message across? Pretend he's injured during one of these wrestling/tackling/slewfoot bs instances. Stay down, stay down a long time, require a stretcher off the ice and have he Oilers team provide no immediate updates. Make the league sweat a little that their marquee face of the league is possibly seriously injured through something that the league allows to occur nonstop.

This is by no means blaming McD, I don't for an instant but I want the NHL to panic next time and really figure it out.

McD should also feign injury before the 4 Nations cup. That would screw with the NHL bigtime.

Its absolutely incredible the league is suspending the most important player in modern times instead of protecting him and the other marquee players that sell tickets and are the reason people watch.

Dunderhead NHL suspends McD and ratings automatically go down for the game(s) he's out. Indescribably stupid.

We all know McD had this outburst and suspension review due to the NHL's game management of not calling bs on the worse teams.

Works gonna be interesting tomorrow. Nucks fans haven’t wanted to talk much hockey lately.

It’s funny though, I’ve talked about how bad refs are and that they let things get out of hand and it’s up to the players to enforce when that happens. This was about the slewfoots mostly, but all types of crap always goes uncalled.

They agreed. This was all in the past week or so. It’ll be funny to see the change in tune.

The bolded should 100% be correct. My guess is it will have no bearing on the result. The NHL effectively condones what Garland did. It is at the heart of their game management to suppress the effectiveness of the league's best players in the name of parity. I honestly know of no other sport that allows this sort of thing. All the other sports try to protect and highlight their stars sometimes, as in the case of the NBA, to the extreme.

In the NBA stars almost always get the benefit of the calls. If you did to say Lebron what players regularly do to McDavid, guys would be fouling out left and right and Lebron would kill them at the foul line.

Rather I suspect that what Garland admitting he did does is makes the situation worse. It will inspire others to do exactly the same and we know that in most instances it will go uncalled.

He should do that and also sit out the Four Nations. Everyone knows the league wants to use him to market it, so f*** them. They need to treat Connor fairly and if not they lose the privilege of profiting off his talent.

It would also give him some much-needed rest. Let Gary fine him/the team, his temper tantrum would be fun to watch after ten years of abuse our way.
I’d fully support that.

“I need to prioritize my NHL team and quite frankly I need to rest. It’s a grueling season with a lot of slashing, crosschecks, etc that go uncalled. I need to be ready for games that really matter.”

I know there’s jest in this but gonna call this out and say it’s not needed. I don’t care about their trash fan base or team but we just don’t need to be typing thoughts that millions should die. Rise above.

That’s not really what I meant by the earthquake. I was just hoping they’d break off the mainland and set sea to wherever away from us.

Not every team approaches McDavid the way the Canucks do. There are a few teams, like the Canucks--the Kings too--whose strategy is often to do whatever they can to stop McDavid and essentially dare the refs to call the game by the book. The Canucks know the refs probably aren't going to call absolutely everything, and the calls they do make are worth the trade off. Sometimes it backfires, like against the Kings last year when the refs weren't having any of it, which is why the Kings were so mad at the refs during that playoff series, because they knew that was really their only workable strategy.

Anyways, the refs from last night are incompetent. The sequence between McDavid and Garland really began at the start of the game, when the Canucks held RNH and then tripped Nurse during their powerplay, which directly led to the goal. The rules of the game were set, and the Canucks knew they were going to get away with all manner of obstruction. They committed uncalled infractions all night.

It is the only way they can beat the Oilers, but if the refs are incompetents, it's a highly effective strategy. It is the only reason they won last night.

EDIT to add one more thing: I will never forget what Kerry Fraser said to Jason Gregor on his show a few years ago. He said, he always wanted the players to understand that the game was going to be called on his (i.e., Kerry Fraser's) terms. That said everything anyone needs to know about NHL reffing. Never mind the rule book; the refs themselves are the source of the rules. That's how they view themselves. And I wonder how narcissistic one has to be to think that way.

Yep. This will be the new standard play on McDavid in the last minute of games, especially in the playoffs. Unfortunately, this type of play is incentivized by the league. Game management and parity pushing executives serve to further the aggregate revenue of the league by manufacturing playoff aspirations for teams that would be well under .500 without Bettman points. The general nature of wordings and enforcement of the rules in the league leads to a product where the standards of the game vary wildly; an identically played game on one night could be a special teams fest, and on the next could be a 'game 7' depending on what the refs decide pre-game. Goaltender interference challenges might as well just pull up a roulette wheel on the scoreboard to determine the outcome, as the standard is so variant that no-one, not even the refs, know what goaltender interference is.

I think that cement block head parros will give McDavid 2 games b/c it has another Vancouver game in it.

He is a shit dman, but is Myers going to have a hearing too?
