OMG, this board has a hard on for goalies. I just saw the goal by the Sharks. Quick was just as much of a problem on that goal as Mika and Miller. That was an absolute stinker. But goalies are beyond reproach I guess.

You could do things the right way and hope for a 5% chance is goes well and then and 80% chance you suck for years and then a 15% you're the Oilers who knock on the door but ultimately are no better than the Rangers (of previous years). Or you could be respectable franchise even if ultimately you have a ceiling. Give me respectable franchise over the Sharks or Sabres garbage. I have a different opinion in football because really all it takes is a QB there and tanking a season is unwatchable for 17 games, not 82. But in hockey, sorry I don't want to watch this garbage or the garbage in upstate NY. Or the garbage in Anaheim. Detroit and Ottawa finally look like mediocre teams that are still not as good as the Rangers were the last three seasons after years of garbage. The teams that actually do it right, do it right because of luck mostly.

Respectable. Every year the same shit, but respectable. Cool. Meanwhile, the Sharks will pick 3 players to include the 1OA before the Rangers get to pick once. I think the Sharks are doing it right. That's just me.

You serious Clark? KAM puts it right on the kids stick in the high slot. No time to react just had to hope it hit him.

Expecting perfection all the time in sports will make every single game unenjoyable

As opposed to what, coming here to a team that's literally worse at everything? (except goaltending)
Thing is, the most skilled hockey player of all time playing in NYC has the potential to make more in endorsements in 1 season than he has in his whole career combined in EDM.

Also, we're talking two years from now. Give me McDavid, Fox, Shesterkin, and 17 empty roster spots, and I can build you a contender myself.

Yeah, but he'd be leaving one of the best contenders in the NHL to come to a shithole. Dysfunctional Edmonton is a meme that went moldy a couple of years ago. They're an excellent team and he'd be leaving the best teammate he's ever gonna play with.

I always hear that we can just get who we want but the names just aren't out there to build through free agency. 2027 looks like shit too.

Also, it doesn't work. We've been buying players to fill holes instead of just drafting franchise players for 50 years.

Lafreniere-McDavid-Cuylle
Miller-Eichel-Perreault
Sykora-Trocheck-Othmann
Berard-Carrick-Rempe

FA Signing-Fox
Emery-Schneider
Robertson-Borgen

Shesterkin
Garand

Call it a pipe dream, but that's a contending team. Especially since you can also easily upgrade guys like Sykora/Berard/Robertson through FA.

It's a pipe dream.

And the D corps isn't NHL caliber.

Marner is not a franchise forward and Eichel isn't at 30 but you know for a fact that good but not elite rookie Celebrini is a franchise forward? Not your best work.
Celebrini is like 16 years old and he's already close to a PPG player.

He won't be 30 until 2037 and he won't be a UFA until 2032.

Age is a thing and you should know that because we both have lower back pain.

Not your best work.

That's fine but calling someone a franchise player off a rookie season that very good but not elite is a bit much. And you could be a franchise forward at 30 it just won't last as long.

And what if all they get with their high picks is another Laf and Kakko?

In the end it mostly is just luck. You can talk about the "right way" all the time, but in the end there is no guaranteed road to success. And despite the - rightful - loathing of this year's team: the Rangers achieved more in the last years than most of the eternally tanking teams have or will in the next 10 years.
