Post-Game Talk: Well we knew it would be a slog

The other guy did stop several breakaways in OT in the two games. Stu didn't stop two in this game and another one was shot wide.

It's borderline start Picard time.
Yeah I laughed at Reinhard for shooting wide. I'm sure after the game the team jeered him a bit too. I mean its Stu Skinner on a breakaway. Fake a deke and put it 5 hole. Works everytime. The guy had all kinds of time.

Alternately pick a corner and put it there. To miss by two feet when you have that kind of time is bagskate time. Its hang your head stuff.

Skinner is probably around 25% on breakaways. Maybe 40% if you count the amount of times the guy on the breakaway shoots wide, lol.

I'd be more than fine with starting Pickard. I think he's better suited to the Panthers move the puck around schemes.

Can Skinner be trusted to not sink us again? Another night of sub .900 hockey and sewering us in 2OT.

I go back to undefeated Pickard. The Jones goal made me sick as well.

I have only two comments.

1.) I'm glad the viewership of the final is in the toilet. This league is run worse by Enron, with even stupider people. Bettman bragging about how the NHL is growing is like a businessman bragging about how successful he's been when he would have been better off putting his initial investment in an index fund.

2.) The Oilers had a chance to put this game away early while on a 5-3 powerplay. Their failure to convert on that opportunity and give themselves a 2-goal league was critical failure.

The over reaction here about a team that has lost a combined 5 games all playoffs is asinine
The days of our lives. We're so into all the minutiae of the game as a fanbase. But thats the passion.

I think for some its not that we are 1-1 and have lost home ice advantage. Its that the Oilers came out in this final with all kinds of resolve to beat the Panthers, to want to avenge, all that, and yet the Panthers have been in both games and both going to OT on our home ice. Fact of the matter is thats an extremely successful roadtrip for any club, to ge both in OT and win one is accomplishment. For the Oilers its not even holding serve.

People can still thnk the Oil win the series and still be bummed out a bit how its gone. That said I agree completely with Bieksa that the series deserves to be 1-1 on basis of play.

Despite their home record the Oilers have been middling at best at home, often having horrendous second periods. With how good Florida has been on the road a split is better for us than them especially since they’re pretty average at home.

Series deserves to be 1-1 but Edmonton hasn’t looked good enough to be close to winning this series. It’s a rough spot to be in. Being up 2-0 would have been huge. Florida is going to bring their A game in game 3 and the Oilers don’t look like they will be able to handle that right now.

Stop playing the puck up the boards. Florida seals them off - hence the propensity to give up odd man rushed a breakaways- use the middle of the ice. When the puck is rung up along the boards- the wingers need to not try to shove it out- chip it into the middle where our centres need to come low and up the middle. Second- stretch the neutral zone. Force their D to back up the walls. Oilers are ringing around the boards way too f***ing much. That plays right into Florida’s forecheck.

Florida had leads of 3-1 and 4-3 in the third. This team doesn’t give up leads. Oilers came back in both. Fix that second period and take a lead into the 3rd. Special teams is killing this team. Absolutely ruining them. I hate that neither is practiced. I hate that they think this is resolved through video.

I'm the only other one mentioning the Jones goal. Its so comically bad how unable Skinner is to deal with that kind of cross ice. It was another play that was "too fast" and that he didn't anticipate or read whatsoever. then he waves his stick at it while he's 10 feet away.

Getting a little tired too of him waving around for a penalty half the times he's beat.

Its one thing for a good play to barely beat a goalie. But to have him out to lunch like that every opponent team looks at that. Panthers sure know what kind of plays beat Skinner.

They came back in both games. If anything- it’s Florida who looks to be in a rough spot. They can’t close out the oilers with leads. Bob is getting peppered and is starting to have pucks bounce of his glove and giving up a ton of rebounds.

I can't agree with this because our go to players have given a much much better account of themselves than was happening in the early games of the series last year. All of McD Drai, Booch have been finding it and making stupendous plays. The other thing is last year in first two games we couldn't buy a goal. This year we've scored 8. Scoring 4 goals in the finals every game should net better than .500 record.

What remains however is this need to have to outscore Skinner. Drives me up the bend.

The Bennet goal as well. Bennet fanned on it and it still went in

I mean you could say the same of Bob. People hyping him up while he’s let in some woofers. Arvidsson and Kane goals were bad.

Bob and Pickard both get across there and make a good attempt at a save. Stuart goes AFK(away from keyboard).

Even the Schmidt pass from the point to Marchand on the PP in game 1. How does Stu not even come close to getting across there? He doesn’t move.

We do the same and Bob is robbing our guys or they’re barely squeaking in. He robbed Drai bad last night on a cross ice play. Drai started celebrating, you could see it. Only a couple goalies make that save.

Pickard needs to get back in there.

Yeah, the stops on Drai Booch, and Kapanen among others were highway robbery. Stop on Drai shouldn't even be possible. On that specific play Bobo has to respect possibility of a shot and then instantly react and move across to make the stop on the best goal scorer in the world. Degree of difficulty doesn't get higher than that ever. What a save. Drai shaking his head for sure.

In anycase I'm glad we have 3 queens (chess analogy) rather than the bishops and rooks the Panthers have. Invariably the best geneational players in hockey find a way to get it done.

The more pressing issue is Bob hasn't taking any physical punishment he needs to be fallen on hard and brutally. This is the new norm and Panthers have done it for 4 rounds now.

It's the height of stupidity to not respond in kind. Its significantly worse if we hurt their goalie than we lose ours.

Except sometimes it does come down to that, and that’s when you need the save. Sure he made some stops, but none of that matters much when that last one goes in, does it? Not trying to pick a fight here, but there is no way that goal should go in. No excuse.
Skinner's stick shaft was lifted slightly by Marchand swiping at the puck and that allowed the puck to slide under it.

sorry, I don’t buy Florida hasn’t played well BS. Ekblad looks gassed on the bench, Bob is sweating buckets and is showing signs of fatigue. Barkov having issues with McDavid like he did last year. Saying Florida hasn’t played well is just ridiculous. Is it that hard to give the Oilers credit?
