Post-Game Talk: Well we knew it would be a slog

After a loss, maybe a couple of potential changes

Change the Nurse-Kulak pairing. Put Nurse with Walman. Kulak and Klingberg concerns me but Nurse has been garbage since Stecher has sat. They probably wouldn’t put Stecher in because of his size, but maybe…?

And give Conner Brown a break. He’s been putrid these last two games. Put Skinner in for a game.
If Knob had enough balls he would scratch Nurse. Nurse is far-and-away our least competent defenceman right now and is the only one failing to make a breakout pass. Puck’s a grenade on his stick.

Kulak is amazing when he’s on his correct side. He’s being asked to play his offside with our worst defenceman.

Kulak-Bouchard
Ekholm-Stetcher
Walman-Klingberg

This is the group you go with if you can get past the politics of having to scratch one of your vets. Your highest paid defenceman.

Fix the damn breakout. We've been getting insanely outcoached all series long and seemingly haven't altered our breakout one bit from the previous series.

Hold a f***ing lead. Blew two of 'em last game. That's not what champions do.

If our PP gets going and Skinner plays average, we win the series.

Bobrovsky is just unreal. The amount of sideshow trapeze cirque du soleil saves he made last night are more than Skinner has made in his life.

The teams are pretty evenly matched. Shame we don’t have Hyman. I do believe we need to put Jeff Skinner in for some goal scoring touch. Too many shifts of anemic do-nothings in our bottom 9.
If we need to rely on special teams we don’t stand a chance.

Those are 2 massive ifs

After watching Frederic’s it can’t be understated how badly Boston fleeced us. I hope to god the oilers brass have put any idea of signing this player to an extension out to pasture.

I dont agree with the highlighted at all.

In game 1, aside from the 2nd period (and the first 5 miniutes of O/T), the Oilers were by far the better team.
In game 2 the Oilers were better in the first period.
They also looked better in O/T than Florida by my eye.

So IMO Florida (at best) has won 4 out of 9 periods in this series so far. That suggests that for the most part the Oilers coaching staff have done a good job.

In game 2 the players looked out of gas to me. Very sluggish and they were making a lot of mental mistakes.
Thats not coaching...thats just emotional and maybe physical wear and tear.
They get an extra day off between games 2 and 3....that should help.

There are going to be ebbs and flows to this series.

That said overeacting after a loss isnt exactly uncommon on here...lol

Maybe a couple of changes are in order...

I would consider taking out Klingberg and putting in Stecher.
Then you can pair Nurse / Stecher and Kulak / Walman.

At forward....I would move Frederic up with McDavid and try to get him more involved in the game.
Use him the same way the team used Maroon when he was here.
I agree with the stecher move.

Florida played bad, Edmonton played good, Florida took us to OT in both and won 1.
What happens when Florida plays good?
Florida is going home with tons of confidence and Edmonton is going to be really doubting their game after their home stand. Florida took us lightly last year and almost paid for it. They won’t this time.
YOU have doubts. The team has given us zero reason to believe THEY have any doubts so far.

I believe we're getting massively outcoached from a defensive zone breakout perspective. We literally just panic rim it around to the other team or throw it u p the boards to a waiting panther EVERY SINGLE TIME. Unless the one time Boosh makes a nice short pass.

It's clear that this team has just been told to throw it up as hard as you can up the boards to hope that it squeaks out of the zone. The panthers dmen are there before any of our fwds even are.

Really? When? How do you know?
The entire bottom 6 is getting completely shit on by FLA's third line.

Ghosts: HENRIQUE, BROWN, JANMARK, PODZILLA, FREDERIC...ETC

Essentially, our bottom 6 lines arent producing anything outside of RV's lucky goal, and are largely getting caved in at 5on5

Brown is back to look like the fwd version of vinny d. We dont have any drivers. What's worse is knobby is starting to go nuclear because we have passengers on our TOP 6, too. So, essentially, we're going through games where we have 3 lines that do nothing but get caved in. Not good.

And this indicates that losing in double OT is gonna sink them because they are mentally weak?

Help me out here. I'm so confused.

It's almost like people on the internet are resorting to parasocial projection of their own insecurities.

You are the one projecting. I am only commenting on the fact that our so called depth has disappeared this series, nothing more.

you’re telling me the non McDrai guys haven’t shown the ability to completely vanish or shit the bed when things get tough?
Shit Nurse does it in game. A guy gets 10 feet from him and he panicked and iced it.

Except sometimes it does come down to that, and that’s when you need the save. Sure he made some stops, but none of that matters much when that last one goes in, does it? Not trying to pick a fight here, but there is no way that goal should go in. No excuse.
This is cutting to the chase, and compact and right to the point post. Thats the thing about looking at attribution. The clearest reason we lost was the OT goal, and ftr Skinner was also beat twice in OT, by the same player, and both times were bad, plays a goalie should have.

Lets not pretend either that Skinner was serially saving us in OT. He had 12 shots to deal with in two period of OT. Two of them were dumps. He was beaten twice. There were some pad and logo stuffers in the mix too. Skinner made 2 perhaps unexpected stops in OT. Nowhere in the game was he making stops like a quality goalie would, or was.

The other guy did stop several breakaways in OT in the two games. Stu didn't stop two in this game and another one was shot wide.

It's borderline start Picard time.

One thing I want to say today, and maybe the clarity of morning but man whatever take people have you gotta love how much we care, the amount of discussion, deliberation, the debates. Its all just passion. In the midst of that I don't always realize it, but I like that theres differing takes and that we can balance each other at times or be completely at odds. Its all passion. Would be far worse if this was a club not to care about.

Agree with your post btw. Kapanen has been the only depth forward on. I can't really consider Perry a depth forward as he's taken over the Hyman spot (and quite well) and Kane is an elite player imo. We're getting nothing else though. All day its McD, Drai, Booch driving the wagon.

Yes individuals make mistakes. Nurse isn't good enough, that's a separate issue. Ironically I think Nurse is one mentally resilient SOB.

Over and over again we've seen this team bounce back. They're pro athletes in the highest echelon of their sport.

You are nervous because you don't have that mentality; it's all right, neither have I, neither have most of us.

You are projecting your own uncertainties onto the team because you can't control the outcome.
