I was never a big Crawford fan, but I would take him 1 million times out of a million over Skinner. He at least gave that team the type of goaltending they should expect from a strong defensive team (which the Oilers are no matter how hard people try to claim they aren't).

Crawford at his peak was a million times better than Skinner

Yup, but even Chris Osgood(enough) was much more consistent than Skinner

The way that we've built our team cap wise we can't afford a high end goalie. I'd settle for an average goalie that can get hot at times ie. Roli. I was considering keeping Skinner and moving out Pickard but I think that ship has sailed and that we need Stu's cap hit moving out to make this deal happen.
I still think the answer is Blackwood and I'd bet just about anything that he would out perform Skinner on this team. The Oilers imo would benefit greatly from an athletic highlight reel goalie which Blackwood is simply because of how they're built. They're built to be a puck possession team that defends mostly by limiting offensive zone time, but they can be prone to some defensive mistakes more than the top zone defending teams in the league and that is when they need those saves. They've shown in the playoffs they can cut down on those mistakes, but those mistakes happen no matter who you are. The difference last year is Bobrovsky stole a game or two because he had that game breaking element to cover up those mistakes that Stu just really has never had.

Game is 1000% on Bouchard.

Goal 2 - how can you expect Skinner to get set when the goal essentially teleports to Matthew Knies because of a dumbass, low awareness clear attempt?

Goal 3 - Might look like a breakaway goal, but until the very end it wasn't. There's no way Bobby McMann should have won that race.

f*** Skinner and f*** Bouch.
Imagine a team with no Nurse, no S. Skinner, and no Bouchard but replace them with players who can actually play better defense and stop the puck better. With S. Skinner being a UFA and Bouchard being an RFA, I wish the Oilers next year would see what they can get on the market for a UFA goalie or one in a trade and also enquire about the value of Bouchard. :sarcasm::dunno:

Bouch needs to stay because of his offensive abilities.

I said last year we should have gone all in to get Saros and really I stand by the idea that this team would be over the top with a top 10 goalie. Obviously that ship has sailed (Saros), but I think they have 2 options.

1) They gamble on a guy like Blackwood because they can add him for minimal cap change

2) They ride out their goalies until the deadline and use double retention to add a 6-8mil goalie and accept they're likely going to be a low seed in the playoffs. That said I haven't looked enough to know if that goalie even exists on an expiring contract on a team that is outside the playoffs.
I would trade Stuart straight up for Blomqvist or add a sweetener if Pens want.
Blomqvist and Rodrigue will be the goalies while Pickard keeps the seat warm

Rodrigue is not ready to do anything. Absolutely crumbled under his first NHL experience. He may be ready someday, but I doubt it's this year.

Saros is worse than Skinner.
You feeling ok buddy?

I'm not sure how you guys can blame Skinner on this game. 2nd goal giveaway, third goal breakaway. Bouchard didn't do his job on both. Funny how it works around here. First goal mcdavid whiffs and couldn't get the puck out. Those are all defensive breakdowns.

This board has a bunch of the same people who ran Dubnyk out of town. The same people crying for trades so the front office panics. Our downfall was trading for griffin reinhart with those 2 picks, one that could have been barzal. The same people also were trying to dump broberg as a throw in during trade deadline or salvage him with a 4th rounder in return. The impatience of the fans makes it hard for this team to ever win a cup.
