hughes has been compared to makar for each of the last 6 seasons. one season hughes had a better year and now canuck fans want to act like hughes and makar are now equals. nope, come back with another major award or two to even have that conversation.

I mean... the thread question was who was better in the 23-24 season, that's pretty much why people are in here.

Nobody would dispute that Makar has had a better career, but there's definitely an argument to be made that Hughes has been better since last September.

The amount of Canucks fans who need to whip it out for no reason comparing these two. Im actually excited to watch Quinn and the gang whoop Canada's ass in Italy in 2 years.

Hmm show me some advanced analytics dong backflips of how he has been better the past 15 months. Points wise, it appears close, but he is still lacking as he has his entire career.

Quinn: 97 GP - 20g 88a 108p 1.11 ppg - 91.3 point 82 game pace
Cale: 95 GP - 27g 88a 115p 1.21 ppg - 99.3 point 82 game pace

It's apparently been evident at this point of exhaustion where several posts show stats of him having better advanced analytics and simply being better defensively around that timeframe . No need to pretend here.

Remember folks, this is just a very tiny percentage of Avs fans throwing a tantrum, just like there was a small percentage of Canucks fans throwing tantrums last time around

Avs fans as a whole are up there in terms of being a knowledgeable fan base.

Just making this post because I keep hearing "Avs fan this, Avs fan that"

yea i acknowledge hughes was better in 23-24. everything else has been makar. hughes might get there but hes got to come with more than just a single major trophy.

The people you were talking about are the people who think that one player has been better every season because they don't watch and they don't understand stats, those people aren't worth occupying your brain space with, and there are some of those in both fan bases.

Whatever helps you guys get off quicker I guess. Ill take the Stanley Cup Conn Smythe winner who puts up more points and faces tougher competition with less sheltered starts all day.

The sheltered starts argument continues to be hilarious

Even worse when you realize Makar has >70% o zone starts since last September, of all the nonsensical arguments, it isn't even one that makes Makar look good.

Makar better offensively, Hughes better defensively. Hughes tilts the game more for his team. Makar better career so far, who knows what happens in future. Hughes is smarter, even though Makar's IQ is still off the charts. Makar is a better skater, even though Hughes is spectacular as well. One thing though is Makar has an excellent shot, whereas Hughes is just good and elusive, but not elite.

If I'd have to give out of 10:

Offense:

Makar: 10/10
Hughes: 9.5/10

Defense:

Makar: 8.5/10
Hughes: 9.5/10

Transition:

Makar: 9/10
Hughes: 10/10

IQ:

Makar: 9/10
Hughes: 10/10

Skating:
Makar: 10/10
Hughes: 9.5/10

Physical strength and endurance:
Makar: 9.5/10
Hughes: 8.5/10

Shot:
Makar: 9/10
Hughes: 8/10

Its pure stats. Away from the top 1-2 line forwards, it is factually accurate statistically that in 2023-24 Hughes went up over 10% in his O zone starts while lines 3 or 4 were on the ice, where Makar went down 13% and Fox went down 8%.

That is something that is out of their hands, given an advantage or disadvantage depending on their centers to help or hurt them.

Im not blaming Hughes for it or saying Fox/Makar are worth more because of it, but you cant deny stats.

If you can’t figure that out, that’s not my problem.
no, the poster posted a clip of makar breaking Hughes ankles. Which is what the thread is about. The clip you posted didn’t have any of that. It seems you’re the one that didn’t understand or just being willfully ignorant… my bets on the later

No, that’s not what this thread is about. It has nothing to do with them playing against each other.

as a canadian, I know eventually I'll be rooting for Makar, but if I need a 1D to build around right now, I will pick Hughes. he can tilt the ice in all situations, and he is rarely hurt. For a franchise D, i can't think of 2 more important qualities.Hughes just keeps getting better each year while being a captain. its been a joy to see the 2 of them compete year after year. Its the Crosby/Ovechkin rivalry in the backend.

Still has nothing to do with them playing head to head.
The clip I referenced is more in line with the thread title than the one you posted. Not exactly the gotcha moment you seemed to be looking for. Anywho, I’m done arguing a petty argument with someone so willfully ignorant cheers
