Stolarz save on Henrique after we went down 3-2 was as challenging as any save Skinner had to make tonight. That's all I'm going to say on the "Oilers give up better scoring chances" argument. Skinner just keeps getting himself into trouble. I don't blame him at all on the 2-2 goal that was just a dumb play by Bouchard. The breakaway 3-2 he basically screws himself over because he hesitates on a puck he should have been able to get to to negate the breakaway, and then he just freezes so now he's about 5 feet outside of his crease and is completely flat footed. He basically handed that goal to the Leafs because there was no chance in the position he put himself in that he was going to be able to stop a deke at full speed. The OT winner I've already touched on. Purely guessing and hoping the puck hits him there.
My problem with Skinner this year isn't even his usual faults. We already know his lateral movement sucks. It always has. My problem is he is making absolutely atrocious reads and decisions and is taking away his biggest redeeming quality which used to be his calm positional play. That's generally the sign of a goalie who is in his own head, or who has quite literally zero confidence that he can stop a shot, and thats a horrible quality to have in a starting NHL goalie on a cup contender.
