Until we passed it to them in the slot then gave up a break away next shift. That’s just disastrous game management. Skinner has to make more saves but you can’t play that way and expect to win consistently.
Some of hockey is bad luck. Puck deflecting off McD right to the Leaf in the slot. Another play in Leafs game doesn't go and suddenly its a breakaway chance to a player as fast as McD. The only Leaf player probably that turns that into a breakaway. That one, thats just the result of burn speed. On a McD level. Oilers aren't used to facing that kind of speed tbh. Any other player and it wouldn't be a breakaway. If we Pickard in net it wouldn't be either. Would have read the play.

The shot was off the post.
If a shooter puts a shot off the inside of the post there isnt much a goalie can do.
That's kind of false when the puck isn't shot above pad level. A 6'4 goalie should entirely seal the bottom of the net to pad height. If he gets beat inside the post over the pad then sure, but you can't actually watch that goal and tell me what Skinner did was right. Thats the kind of shit you see goalies do in beer league giving up the far side to close up the short side hoping it will just hit them.

It’s game management. Why is Bouchard trying to stretch pass through 4 guys up a goal late in the third? Why are both D flat footed on the next shift? There’s a reason we’ve allowed the most goals in the last 10 min of regulation in the nhl.

There’s no excuse for that Bouchard turnover, none. That’s what is called an AHL pass. And then given an opportunity to make up for it he completely dogs a back check. No team plays perfect but efforts like that are completely unacceptable.
I never said his pass was acceptable. We are talking about the team as a whole and you are changing the subject and goal posts with every single post.

Oilers averaging 25 shots against per game at all strenghts, 3rd best in the league. 8.41 HDCA per 60, best in the league. 76% HDSV%, 4th worst in the league. Overall all strengths SV% of 87.5, 3rd worst in the league.

Just for reference because it's an interesting data point - Sutter's King's, widely considered the best defensive club of all time, from 2011 to 2014 had 8.76 HDCA/60.

The puck really seemed to be above pad level. Looked to me to be about 10-12 inches off the ice...just above the pad.

Accountability doesn't apply to our "Pavelski". He is the most overrated player in the league. Just have him enter his Malhotra era and stick him on 4C
You watch Janmark intensity out there and compare him to RNH. Jam is blowing him out of the water. Once again tonight Janmark in a scoring play and also generated a tying goal late before we pulled goalie. Was all over it and just a tenacity about him. He's being so much value. Then theres RNH who is barely even noticeable out there. A guy that should be on a Marner level.

They had a chance to put the game away in the first with a 5 min pp and got two shots. Just awful.

Fun fact for anyone knocking skinner. We’ve allowed 18 goals in the final 10 minutes of regulation this season. Most in the NHL. Some of that is goaltending sure but when it’s at the same point of the game that’s a game management issue. Perfect example tonight.
Exactly.

You seriously asking me what Bouchard is thinking? ;)

Really I don't know. Nobody here does including him. heh

jk aside they weren't flatfooted on the next shift. It was a dragster blowing their doors open. One of the fastest sprint players in the league. Would attribute as well to coaching and players being told to be aware of certain players in situations. That was burn speed there. Neither Booch or Ekholm are slow. Just looks like it next to a jet. It happens. You need a save somewhere.

Sorry Russ but this just isn't accurate. The Oilers were really getting a game rolling where they're hardly giving up anything and frustrating opponents by getting zone outs constantly. not allowing teams to establish in our zone. Leafs had hardly anything for first 50mins of this game and the Oilers have badly outplayed opposition last 4 games. Really felt they were getting that game going. Very reminiscent play to what had success last year.
Fair enough, I do see improvement, especially with more plays with the puck in the offensive zone, but the last game, our D overcommitted and pinched and we gave up a breakaway to tie the game. And this game Bouchard wired a pass right to a Leaf. Oilers may be playing better, but lack of awareness of the game situation late and brain dead plays and it ends up in the back of the net, and it’s not all on the goalie. So how good is this improvement if we stupidly give it back by the end of the game.

Bowman was hired under more than a dark cloud, and has really only one job, find the couple of missing pieces to win the SC this year. Clock is ticking, hoping he doesn't wait too long to fix problem #1, which is getting a #1 goalie. i don't really give a shit at the point how 'hard' it is, it's literally his only job. Fix this f'in mess.

NHL shooters can go post and in on a wide open net pretty frequently. If it is well covered, the room for error greatly diminishes.
That shot is a goal 90% of the time. If you are going to fault a goalie it certainly shouldnt be on a shot like that.

Meh Not putting it all on skinner. Plenty of goalies have been beat like that.

BUt Yeah Oilers and Toronto could both learn howto shoot more

If we had a competent goalie this team would have won the cup last year
We would have a few more wins this year already

Management better be looking every frikkin day for a goalie. This is getting rediculous. Imagine how scared they are making a mistake when the goalie on the other end saves their Ds asses here and there. Deflating
