So what part of that replay that you watched wasn't a headshot?
Dude, the arguments have been laid out pretty well by the large majority of posters here. Wasn't targeting the head, didn't leave his feet, dude had the puck (dangling with his head down!), doughty doesn't go out of his way, wasn't from behind, carrier doesn't protect himself and doughty has ZERO priors. If it was brownie I would understand as he no longer receives the benefit of any doubt.

It was just a coincidence that happened to be Carrier skating down the ice with his head up his ass and Doughty was in the perfect position to level him. He would've and should've done the same no matter who it was.
Doughty knew who it was. Carrier could have been neutralized a variety of ways. It didn’t have to go down that way.

So if you nail someone in the head, but you don't "leave your feet", it's not a headshot? If you can prove that in hockey court you are a god damn genius!

No genius but pretty close.

What about the other 6 arguments? nevermind leaving the feet.

Are you suggesting that, Without any exceptions, every time a player gets a hit to the head it deserves a suspension? Whatever happened to "hockey plays?"

Soft call. Soft game.

Bleh, nevermind. If you don't already get it you might never. Fair enough.

You guys are not seeing the big picture here , in 2012 we had one of the top 2 runs of all time at 16-4 , would be hard to top right , then in 2014 we come back from 3-0, win game seven on the road 3 times in three series and then beat the greatest overrated goalie in 5 games , hard to top right , enter 2018 and this time we have to win with a different story line right so we are off to a good start here we go Go Kings Go

I know he knew who it was, but it's not like he went out of his way to make the hit. His only other option is to hit him, but not as hard as he did. I honestly wouldn't have him change what he did even if I knew he were getting a suspension only because I know Doughty is going to play out of his mind in game 3 and hopefully the whole team can rally behind this.

Yep, there's no other play there but to hit the snot out of that guy. Seriously. Power forward who has been hitting all game leans to cut into the middle with his head down? Hit him. I'm still f***ing pissed but he made the right play and I hope he never holds back.

To me the biggest issue is he didn't go out of his way to hit him in the head. Did he hit him in the head? Yes of course he did. Was it targeted? No. I wouldn't even say it's the primary point of contact. He hits arm/shoulder and continues through the check catching Carrier with his head down. The no hit league is on it's way. Solid body contact with an unfortunate result.

You could have made that hit without head contact. Sorry, I love Doughty and am as big homer as the next fan, but checks to the head are not cool in any league. Carrier took the brunt of that to the head. I for one don’t ever want to see another Kariya/Stevens incident. Good old fashioned hockey hit tho right? Concussions are a serious issue and pro leagues are facing law suits over it. This is the NHL’s inconsistent way to deal with it. It is a precedent on a big name player. Now we will see what they do with the other head shots that occurred tonight. If nothing, feel free to engage your outrage.

You can't make hitting in hockey 100% safe. As long as there's hitting allowed, there will be contact to the head, and other possible injuries as a result of it, even if the hitting player has no intention of committing harm.

Just like taking slap shots; as long as they're allowed guys will be getting injured from being hit by pucks moving 90 miles an hour.

At this point, they might as well make hitting illegal. Guy makes a big clean hit he gets attacked by the other team. He has to "answer" for it. Guy tries to make a hit and misses resulting in a dangerous play, he gets suspended for it.

Bull**** suspension to Doughty. RIP our season.

Good point, I didn't think of that.

The script must be that we win the cup while gradually losing defensemen. My guess is that after game 2 we find out that Martinez has actually been a Llama pretending to be a hockey player this whole time.

I agree with contact happening. But it’s like the hitting from behind. You know not to do it. But there is a blood sport mentality for some in hockey. I like checking and physicality. Doesn’t mean you have to kill everything that moves. Lidstrom defended mainly by postition and stick work. Head down open ice hits are exciting but are probably the most dangerous play in hockey. But the, f*** it that player deserved it mentality, needs to change. I know I know, it’s just old school.

I do agree a solid check does not need to be answered with a fight every time. That is ridiculous.

Skating with your head up might be THE most important and stressed fundamental in the sport. I'm not saying you're necessarily doing this but suggesting opponents back off in those situations is absurd. It's a tough game, just look at doughty/brownie/Carter's face they've definitely paid their dues.

Take out Carter. Keith decided to whack him in the face as target practice with his back turned. He had all his pearly whites before Keith went kookoo

And on the flipside of that, going for the puck there means you can miss and you actually get burned on the play. Hell, even an effective pokecheck just dislodges the puck...which means another loose puck battle for which Carrier to board Doughty in. No, every level of hockey will teach you to play the body there. Doughty didn't play it perfectly, and here we are, but there is no d-man worth his salt that goes for the puck only there.

Hell, even high-level roller hockey is 'non checking' and they'll tell you to play the body there too.
