Weekes: Weekes stirring up Pittsburgh rumors?

He has Pens legacy on his mind no doubt but it's a combo of legacy and winning or at least competing for playoffs.

Crosby has already won as much as any player has won in the cap era.

Like I posted yesterday, there is simply nothing that can be added from Crosby jumping to a new team to win another cup. Whether he has 3 cups or 4 cups won't make a difference.

Not sure how that plays out. Same narrative was said with P Kane.

I just don't see Crosby liking no playoffs over and over again.

I think it looks pretty hacky on Weekes part. Either break trade news or keep quiet. But tweeting out a picture of Pittsburgh for engagement bating is lame.
I don’t disagree, but he does this shit all the time and he’s right often enough to drive conversations. I just don’t know where people think Crosby is the guy that deserves the most conversation here. It’s obviously not any of Crosby, Malkin, or Letang.

Kane’s just not a comparative here. And Crosby’s won everything there is to win. Again, not every decision is about individual win totals. I don’t know why everyone projects that onto these athletes when there is a huge amount of history to the contrary, and a ton of context in Crosby’s situation to end the conversation for anyone paying attention.

Oh 100%. It's Crosby call to make. But if and when it happens (traded), I don't think the Pens and Crosby are going to advertise it. Rantanen being shopped was not so you should get the point. It's too easy to say Crosby is staying today.

Do you honestly think he will be happy on a non playoff team and loosing games for the rest of this year and 2 more? My gut says he still wants to compete but he wants the Pens roster to improve. If that don't happen, things change for both the team and player IMO.
Yes. He literally just signed a contract and has said via so many sources that he wants to finish his career in Pittsburgh with his guys.

Why is Kane not a comparison? Explain more?

I do remember the same comments made by Hawks fans when he was with them and they were falling on their face. The same thing was said about legacy and he will retire a Hawks.

I think this is an opportunity for the Pens to accelerate a rebuild. Both Crosby and the Pens need to come to reality IMO. It's best for both the team and player but that is just my perception from the outside looking in.

Kane wasn’t as important to the Hawks as Crosby has been to the Penguins. There was conversation about how the Blackhawks were ready to end their relationship with Kane before the move. That hasn’t happened in this case, and there is no conversation or action coming from any person within the Pens’ org that hints that Crosby and the Penguins will part ways. The Penguins don’t want to accelerate a rebuild. They want to finish Crosby’s career as a Penguin while restocking the shelves.

Kane’s a different person in a different situation than Crosby. Crosby’s mentor was Mario, and he has molded his career in the same shape as Mario in a lot of ways. Guess how Mario ended his career, and what Mario did after he stopped playing?

I see two options here:
1) Pens improve this offseason and they become a playoff team again. Crosby stays
or
2) Pens don't improve and and they are not a playoff team. More pressure is on the Pens and Crosby and both agree it's time for a change.

I don't see it playing out like option 3...
3) Pens don't improve and they keep missing the playoffs where Crosby is OK with it and stays. He's way to competitive to be OK with losing for 4 years in a row. It's been 2 years in a row now

I think that’s where a lot of people are projecting something into this situation that isn’t there. Crosby’s retirement with the Penguins is a done deal, regardless of what happens. Did Mario jump ship when the Pens stopped making the playoffs?

You forgot option 4:

it doesn't matter what you think

This isn't Penguins fans sitting around clutching onto Sid. This is Sid saying he wants to finish his career with Pittsburgh. If he changes his mind, I think most fans would understand, even if they'd be disappointed. If he he comes out and says 'it's time for the Pens to rebuild and I don't want to be around for that,' then we'll all talk about him being moved, to where, and for what. But until then, he has publicly, privately (as far as we know) and emphatically said: i do not want to leave Pittsburgh. I realize there's not much else to do as a Habs fan during hockey season, but probably best to pine over something a little more realistic.

I'm very curious to see how this plays out. I feel for you guys because this is not going away and will continue to be talked about.

Along comes cranky pants. It was only a matter of time.

It's just a conversation and pondering thoughts. It doesn't have to be controversial

Crosby should take the rental route. Retire a Penguin but do a stint or two in contending teams, it's a win-win-win scenario.

dude, if it's just a conversation for you, it's just a conversation for everyone telling you you're stupid. Just because you're just talking about stupid shit doesn't mean you're free from people judging the stupid shit you say. How the f*** do you not understand how conversations work?

He’s not wrong. Everyone comes in here and completely ignores the facts to make dumb conversation and speculate on something that is a done deal.

This is almost as dumb as the one year people tried to argue that Giroux was a better hockey player than Crosby.

No he shouldn’t, and no it’s not.

It won't go away. It might fade after this latest focus but it will come back next year and the year after.

It will only continue to be talked about because fans of other teams and “influencers” (I.e not actual journalists) will keep bringing it up.

Meanwhile actual hockey writers, penguins insiders and beat reports and fans will keep saying it’s not gonna happen

I'm not the type of person to say "never". I understand it from the Pens perspective but I also understand it from media and fans from the outside looking in. You can't control it

I am a Penguins fan. It would suck to see Crosby on another team, but then at least I might have a reason to watch him play. Right now the Penguins are basically unwatchable. They are dreadful and really depressing.

Crosby states I want to retire as a penguin. Signs two year extension. Posters comes in any says no I feel for you guys but he’s going to want out. Gets mad when people show Sidney’s words. Victim complex at its finest.
There is no way Crosby would say, yeah I want to keep playing a couple more years and if the Pens don’t turn things around I am gone.
