Pre-Game Talk: Week of a Canadian Roadie, @Leaves, @Sens, and @Habs

A few interesting notes:

- The team posts a page and a half or so of key analytics about each opponent in the dressing room ahead of the games.

- Centers receive footage of the opposing centers faceoffs on their iPads to review before games.

- Bednar really likes having Drury and Coyle on the PK to take draws; Drury left side and Coyle right side. Says the addition of Coyle means less PK minutes for Lehky and Nuke, which is of course a good thing.

- Parkkila is part of the scouting and tape review for upcoming opponent goaltenders. They also post the stats of what types of goals the goalies allow and talk about it with the team. Both Bednar and Parkkila work with our goalies to review how the opposing team score their goals, what they like to do on the power play, etc. Jared is heavily involved in the goaltending part.

- Says Gabe looks great, working towards a return.

- Both Gabe and Manson will come on the road trip even though neither will play.

- Manson’s upper body injury not related to his previous one(right wrist). Bednar will know more by the Toronto game on Wednesday. They were getting some second opinions on the injury today. Week to week and not day to day.

- Loves the makeup of the dressing room. All of the additions… Nelson, Coyle, Lindgren, EJ, Vesey… bring a level of veteran experience and professionalism that the team needed. They prepare and handle themselves like pros.

Bednar post-practice media availability:

So hypothetically speaking. If Landy does come back for the playoffs, and Mikko was still on the team, who do you think would have given up their A? Makar because he got it last? Mikko because he wasn't as important? MacK, because he "Wouldn't need it to lead" like EJ said in the past?

Obviously now it's gonna be Toews, but this thought did pop in my head today and left me pondering.

Easily Mikko. I think Cale the last couple of seasons had clearly taken over as the vocal leader of the club while Nate is obviously the best player and drives everything.

I'm really not so sure. Mikko wore that A for 5 years now. It also seemed to mean a lot to him. Logically what you're saying makes sense, but I could see that being a bit of a problem. I also don't think MacK gives two shits about the A. So I could easily see him giving it up, even if I think he's the most deserving of a badge after Landy.

Just ease him in with 3-4 fourth line minutes imo. Don't put expectations too high.

Playoff intensity is so different. Landy has been gone for a long time.

I also think that should be the play, but I also won't be surprised if they use Manson's injury and Wood's back issues as LTIR as a way to get Lando 3-4 games to end the season, then put him with Mack and Necas. I just have a feeling Bednar won't be able to help himself.

Landy is also going.

Bednar said there aren’t many road trips left, so they’re taking a full team including anybody who’s able to skate or pretty much do anything.

Its more for team chemistry and bonding reasons.
Also they said it’s a new UBI for Manson, has nothing to do with the previous one

Yes, read my posts summarizing Bednar’s media availabilities. Damnit.

This is what happens when you get older. You become senile. Don’t hold it against me. I’m turning one more year older tomorrow so…

I hope that happens. Playoffs are too intense to test things out.

Avs need to find/draft someone who plays like Manson minus the turnovers, younger and less injury prone. The guy is always hurt.

Drew Helleson, literally the guy they traded away for Manson.

The Avs were also in on Brandon Carlo in a Coyle package before the Leafs agreed to include Fraser Minten in the deal. Avs couldn’t match that.

They were rumored to be looking at trying to get Helleson back out of Anaheim.

Ok good, so I'm not losing my mind (as much as I thought)

Also some 4D chess from Sakic and CMac. We suck at developing our prospects so send them out for a couple years and try to bring them back once they're ripe.
