IIRC some part of the body has to stay within 1 yard of the LOS before the ball is released.

It's pretty simple. Offensive lineman can't cross the line of scrimmage more than a yard before the ball is passed. Knowing how to fake a run block on play action is part of the skill of being a good offensive lineman.

I think what puts him ahead of Leaf/Russell for me is the fact the Panthers had to trade a haul to get the pick to draft him. If it's another Leaf where it's like "okay yeah he sucks, but it was just one pick we'll move on."

The Panthers had to trade futures, plus a damn good player in DJ Moore on top of that. Tough bounce.

It’s not a bounce though. Someone made the decision to take that risk. While knowing that no matter how much scouting goes into it, you never know how it will turn out.
