Week 17: Merry Christmas, Merry Christmas, Couldn't Miss the NFL This Year

Never in doubt! That game wasn't close despite the final score.

The Vikings are just the better team. They also have the better QB.

So the Rams just need a Commies or 49ers win now and they take the West.

I feel bad for the Lions. They are having their best season ever and were everyone's top team but they might not even win their division. Crazy.

Week 18 looks like it'll at least be decent;

Possible playoff implications

Miami/New York
Cincy/Pittsburgh (pittsburgh wins north with win + ravens loss)
Ravens/Browns (Ravens win north with win)
Seahawks/Rams (winner wins west if Seattle can avoid death by tiebreaker, which will happen with either a Lions or Commanders win)

Guaranteed playoff implications
Denver/Kansas City (Denver clinches with win, door opens for Bengals/Dolphins with loss)
Minnesota/Detroit (Winner wins NFC North and 1st seed)
Falcons/Panthers (Atlanta can still win NFC South at 9-8 even with a loss tonight + a Bucs loss next week)
Bucs/Saints (Bucs win division with a win)

There is a scenario where Washington misses if they lose out + both Tampa and Atlanta win out but that doesn't seem particularly likely

This isn't that farfetched.

Commanders are playing the Falcons tonight, and both Falcons/Bucs have easy week 18 matchups.

Commanders will likely be at Eagles backups next week, but it's not a sure thing.

Rare for these week 18 games to mean something for both clubs now that it’s a divisional game for the season finale.

KC is locked in as 1 seed while Den needs to win and make the PO.
Buffalo locked in at 2. NE is currently holding top pick in draft.
Bal needs to play their guys to win the north. If they tie with Pitt that means they will have a worse divisional record so would drop to WC. Playing Clem who hold pick 3OA.
Houston locked in at 4 but struggling in O. Likely sit and focus on correcting their issues. Ten holds pick 2OA.
Pitt can win division with a win and Bal loss. But playing Cincy who needs to win and get help.
LAC secured WC2 but can be WC1 and play Zhou with a win. LV really nothing for them. Down to like pick 7/8 now.
Denver, win and in vs KC.
Cincy and Miami both need help if they win.

NFC
Min and Det likely to play for the bye and North title.
Phi at 2. Playing NYG who hold pick 4
Rams, play Sea. Tie breakers are with them even if they lose next week and end up tied record wise with Seattle.
TB/Atl both need to win to be in.
GB is in. Either at WC2 or WC3. Want to avoid WC3 and thus phi.
Wash most likely in. But still have to play. Same as GB. WC2 or 3.

Question will be how many games they can play early without impacting the rest of the games after it.

Eagles will be odd in week 18. If Hurts is healthy they might want to get him a few series after missing this week so he's not rusty going into the playoffs. Also they're gonna want to get Barkley the record, but they obviously don't want to risk injury too much chasing vanity.

If that dude is getting $55M, Sam should ask for $60M.

(From some team not named the Vikings)

The smart thing for Minnesota to do is franchise him. Can't imagine that is what Darnold wants but anything guaranteed more than a year is dicey. Especially when you don't have many draft picks and several free agents.

I just love watching Daniels play. I know he's older but so polished as a rookie.
