If Carolina lost, that game would've been an eliminator, with the other team getting in. You want 2 teams playing for something, not 1.

No, since DET lost, had CAR lost and had the winner of DAL/SEA lost in an early game next Sunday then both ATL and CAR would already be clinched by the time that game had happened next Sunday night.

CAR 10-6 > DET 9-7, DAL/SEA 9-7
ATL 9-7 = DET 9-7, DAL/SEA 9-7 and ATL had the tiebreakers

Had CAR lost they would have went with the DAL/SEA winner, as ythat team would have been guarenteed to be in a win and your in, lose and your out scenario, regardless of the other results

Flexing the Bengals/Ravens might work too.

Baltimore needs to win that to clinch a spot. If Buffalo and the Titans win that becomes a win to stay alive.

there's basically nothing left to decide: NBC's screwed either way.

Divisions clinched: Jacksonville, New England, Pittsburgh, Kansas City, Los Angeles, Minnesota, Philadelphia.

Playoff spots clinched: Carolina

Best hope for them might be to somehow flex the Bills/Dolphins (lol) or Jags/Titans game since there rest are essentially meaningless.
If the Cowboys beat the Seahawks wouldn't it make sense to flex Falcons/Panthers since that would be a win and you're in for Atlanta?

Of course if the SEA/DAL winner won early next week then the ATL/CAR game would have been a winner gets in loser out game. But I'm not sure they'd want to bet on that and risk 2 teams that have clinched wildcards playing for the 5 seed. I think they would have almost certainly went for the winner of DAL/SEA playing for a playoff spot regardless of if the other team was playing for nothing

The same issue exists there as it would have if the Panthers lost. Except it only exists for 1 team now. If the winner of DAL/SEA loses an early game next week, ATL would clinch and be locked into the 6 seed.

Right, that's why they wanted Carolina to lose.

They are in a pretty screwed spot though. No matter who they pick it could be relatively meaningless

If they pick CAR/ATL and NO wins and DAL/SEA winner loses then CAR and ATL are locked in as 5/6
If they picked NO and CAR lost then NO has the division anyway, if LAR, wins then they'd be locked into the 4 seed
If they pick JAX/TEN then it could be a win and you're in for TEN, but if BUF and LAC loses then TEN is in anyway, JAX likely locked into 3 unless PIT or NE loses
If they pick BAL then BAL could be in a win and you're in situation but if TEN or BUF lose they would already be clinched
If they pick BUF then BUF could be win an you're in, but if TEN and BAL win then BUF is out anyway
If they pick SEA or DAL and ATL wins then they're out before they play
If they pick LAR the most they get is a game for the 3/4 seed
If they picked LAC and TEN wins then LAC is out
They could pick NE playing for the 1 seed, but PIT/JAX loses and its for nothing too
MIN/PHI/PIT for 1/2/3 seeding but could also means nothing

That's pretty much every game that means anything next week. They'll probably pick ATL/CAR and hope NO loses or the winner of DAL/SEA wins so that games actually means something

I thought you were saying if CAR lost they'd pick CAR/ATL which IMO makes no sense to me because it would have had the potential to mean nothing but a game for 5/6 seeding, especially when the win and you're in lose and you're out potential would have been there for the DAL/SEA winner

Probably going to have to wait until tomorrow night to figure it out and make sure everyone who is supposed to win, does. The specific reason behind making Week 17 exclusively division games, was that at least one game would have to have both teams playing for something. They don't want one side resting starters.

Jimmy G's release and footwork really make the differences between pick-sixes and first downs. More important than raw arm talent by a country mile for me.

Speaking of which, I would not bother with Josh Allen.

Yeah a strong arm and quick release prevents pick sixes and sacks.

Punting from the end zone and letting the other team start at midfield. Just like that abortion last week. :/
