$5000 to a multimillion dollar player, thats like $50 to Weber. I know its in the cba or whatever but that still doesnt hurt him. Oh well **** him. Lets beat their asses Monday.

Simmons actually gets cross checked twice there.
Once by no. 44.
Your typical NHL middle of the back get out of here cross check and then full blown violent to the back of neck/head by a savage.
Tbf Leafs have done the typical cross check to the back get out of here from my net type all series too which is good to see. No issue with that. And glad that shyt doesn’t get called usually. Back of the head is dangerous though

personally i think this 5K fine is like 5 dollars for the people that make millions. I think they should make the fine "hurt" financially.

start with 1% of the AAV (1st offense) , 5% of the AAV (2nd offense) to the max of 10% of the AAV (3rd offense) all in cremental.

Example:
a player makes million in AAV

1st offense: 10K
2nd offense: 50K
3rd offense: 100K

4th offense: 100K and 1 game suspension
5th offense: 100K and 1 game suspension

so if the player took fines 5 times he will be out a total of 360K + 2 GM suspensions. The financial fine continues until the total value hits 1M (their AAV).

This way it is fair IMO. a player making 1M AAV verus a player making 10M AAV it is proportional.

5K fine for Weber is peanuts compared to 5K fine for someone who is making league minimum and on a 2 way contract.

The fines are part of the CBA and must be negotiated. The players would never stand for it, and it's not a hill the owners would be willing to die on.

I hope refs make a note of this for Game 3. All the "cross checking" by habs should be called.

From last game (based on what I recall; I am sure there are others)
  • Kotkanimei crosschecks Rielly breaks his stick
  • Weber cross checks Simmonds
  • Weber cross checks Engvall, after Engvall dummied him
  • Chiarot cross checks Matthews and Hyman behind the net
  • Petry cross checks pretty much everybody in their zone
  • Edmundson crosschecks Simmonds and others. and then wusses out after Simmonds tells him to drop the gloves
  • Perry intentionally hits Campbell and then has a knee up on him

habs are lucky they did not get called on for all the BS they were doing.
It's the Bruins playbook: "they can't call them all!"

I sincerely hope the Leafs keep up the dirt bag play in Montreal on Monday. They're better built to fight those wars and draw the Habs into that game, hopefully leading to some fights. Here is why I hope that...

Montreal's toughest players and those most likely to get into a fight, are as follows...

Josh Anderson
Shea Weber
Ben Chiarot
Joel Edmunson

What do you notice about those names? They're important players for Montreal, Anderson and Weber in particular. Now, who are the players on Toronto' roster that would be the likely combatants in those fights?

Wayne Simmonds
Nick Foligno
Zack Bogosian
Joe Thornton

What do you notice about those names? None of them are near as important to the Leaf's effort and we'd gladly trade 5 minutes of a Weber or Anderson in the Box, for 5 minutes of Simmonds, for example.

Not to mention, Toronto's guys are winning the vast majority of the fights, without much risk to themselves. Here are some examples of Habs players dropping the gloves this year.

The Habs haven't fared well in fights this year and that's just their "toughest" guys. Thry don't have much depth of toughness in that department, where as Toronto still has guys like Muzzin, Hyman and Holl, who certainly aren't heavyweights, but can easily handle Montreal's next tier of guys.

For the first time, in a long time, Toronto has both the talent advantage and ability the ability to bully others in a series. I'd like to see them make Caufield's and Suzuki's life a living hell on Monday. There is really nothing that Montreal is built to do about it that they don't already try to do to guys like Matthews.

There is blood in the water. Attack.

Weber is the biggest baby on their team. Keep planting him on his ass.

Where's the money go from fines? I wonder if they'd be more open to higher fines if the money went back to the players through some type of fund (pension expansion/eligibility, etc ..)

IMO cross checking has been out of hands this playoffs. I love hard physical intense playoff hockey, but cross checking a guy in the back is gutless
This is what fighting stops is the mooks out there.
People want to be so pro non violence in civilization someone will loose an eye over this in years to come then full face masks. Heck there's already to many close to call skate injuries why not roller blades.

Money goes to the NHL Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.

Might as well remove fighting too.

Let them play hockey.

It's the playoffs guys. It's a greasy "grown ass man" time of the year. Be thankful that we have half a dozen guys that can dish it out as well as they can take it back. This is a team that you use to be able to pick on without fear of retaliation. Simmonds, Foligno, Bogosian, Thornton, etc, change that dynamic. It's not as if Ryan Reeves is out there policing for us, but that Habs have nobody near that level either. The guys we have are plenty tough enough to dosh it back to Montreal and pick on their young kids (Suzuki and Caufield) without fear of meaningful retaliation beyond what Montreal already does.

Montreal has been pulling crap the entire season with dirty, sneaky attempts to injure. Glad they are getting called on it. They really have gotten away with it to much. :). 5-1

Well to be fair on that perry fight. Doesn’t look like he wanted to fight back and took his lumps.

Pretty sure it goes to retired NHLPA.

As I said in the mainboard thread, it sure is nice seeing the other team's old guy getting some actual penalties called against them for once. Chara did this 15x a game two years in a row but "lol that's just Chara being Chara, why are you so soft?"

For sure. That's definitely a good point, but Nick Foligno also gets the best of Corey Perry more times than not. Both Foligno brothers can really throw punches. Perry isn't a pushy by any stretch, but he's a little bit out of his depth there.

Leafs have bee recipients of Several head / above shoulder type cross checks have in both games. The worst was at the end of game 2 with Engvall getting smoked. That was a very dangerous cross check. I’m surprised that wasn’t called or reviewed
