I liked the team's reaction after Gallant called them out after the loss to Calgary. There are still a lot of tactical things to work on, and a few players have bad habits and/or things to work on in their game but overall so far so good. Gallant is going about things the right way and the players are responding which is good to see.

They still get mixed up and a bit scrambly in their own end sometimes but honestly they locked it down quite well until they were comfortably ahead, At that point it's not surprising that Columbus pushed a bit more but the game was mostly in the bag

Good bounceback win

I feel like we're seeing good things out of Miller but people want to keep pointing out perceived flaws, I don't really get it.

He has never been a hugely physical player, he never will, that was never his game, yet he does use his size and strength to force guys to the boards and win battles and he's coming along pretty dang nicely this year in a lot of ways.
Maybe enjoy a player for what they do well instead of complaining that they're not all superstars at their positions

I thought Fox was pretty bad tonight, at least by his standards. He took a penalty (albeit a nonsense one) and uncharacteristically gave the puck away several times.

That said, the pass on the Laf goal was obviously insane. I marvel at his vision and feel so lucky to get to watch him night in and night out.

Kakko needs to start finishing.

Trouba has been excellent.

The third pair needs sorting out.

There was a lot more space out there tonight than versus Calgary. And I think we look really good in those situations. But, there was a lot of positives to build off:

1. Kakko looked really good. Really is the best fit on the roster for Strome/Panarin. As much as I don't like it for him, he makes those guys better. You can really see Kakko's intelligence and awareness out there in all zones. He really pays attention to where P&S are and he makes sure they are not getting caught up ice. I just think it's going to hurt his production, but he played really well.

2. Laffy, had a great 2 periods. 3rd he wasn't really as visible, but I think it had more to do with special teams taking up a good chunk of the period. A much better game from him. He even won a board battle. He really shines when he has more time.

3. Hunt looked phenomenal

4. Lundkvist had a pretty good game. He's not perfect back in own zone, but he was playing a little less safe and he was able to have a positive offensive impact.

5. Eventhough Kreider scored twice, the Zib-Kreider-Goody line was the least impactful. I really thought they were very mediocre offensively. They were fine otherwise.

Great to have a game where Kakko, Laf and Lundkvist all make a positive impact. We need more games like that. A game like tonight makes it clear that we are able to beat the easy teams, but due to youth and other factors we will likely continue to struggle (at least for now) against the beefier skilled teams.

Kreider has returned to manimal status, dude is a beast in front of the net. Fox is just amazing and Makar can sniff his jock strap for all I care. Shesty looking great, and just a great response after that 5-1 loss a few days ago. This team is heading in the right direction.

I know I'm going to be in the minority but I'm not a fan of Merzlikins telling his guys to basically stop playing. I'm cool with the salute or whatever (I wouldn't do it, but it's harmless I guess) but no one wants to get shut out. There was nothing particularly special about this shutout for Shesterkin so I'm not really sure why Merzlikins felt like he needed to tell his guys--who, again, don't like getting shut out--to just take it. I wouldn't like it if Shesterkin randomly did that.

Hopefully if they didn't think it was OK they'll talk to him about it after the game.

Agreed- at the very least if you want to throw in the towel with 25 seconds left you should just skate up and put the puck deep in the zone a few times instead of just chilling in the defensive zone like they're mocking the 1-3-1 formation.

Yeah, and I recognize it's not really a big deal, but it just seems like a weird thing to do. If I'm a forward a want to crank a couple shots and try to get one on the board. Whatever, I guess.
