A center's job is also to provide support to the puck carrier in the D-zone when they gain possession and anticipate what's coming. It's a fluid game.

I met Vinny at a Hockey Heroes event a couple of years ago. Nice guy!
Yes and he's actually better puck support in the slot while being able to react when a turn over happens.
Laine clearly didn't like the board option Kirby presented him with.

As depressing as our early season was, I went into the season just hoping we'd manage to be a 0.500 team for Laine's return in late December/Early January.

Well here we are sitting at exactly 0.500 to end the year. Our schedule for January is absolutely brutal, but with the way we ended the year I'm not sure if there's another team in the league with the momentum/confidence that Montreal has right now. We'll see if they can carry it over into the new year.

They showed the second goal on RDS and pointed out that Dach was playing as a winger along the boards and not as a center on that play.
His job was to cover the area where the shot ended up coming the top of the slot.
That line got destroyed in the first period, with Dach implicated on both goals against.

I actually had to make a conscious effort not to lose my shit when he just casually floated towards the half board on the second goal, not paying the slightest attention to his guy attacking the slot.

He got better as the game went on, but he's still very, very far from what we need him to be.

Baby steps I guess. We can afford to remain patient until the end of this season.

Holy crap I can't believe we just beat Florida, Tampa Bay & Vegas in a 3 games in 4 nights series on the road!! I'm in shock. I can't wrap my head around it at all.

Are we ... are we good?

🤯

It helped that Hill was shit. Lol They should have kept Thompson.

OMG, party tonight boys, you deserve it. Great game!

7-3 in last 10.
Now, at .500
3 pts back of Ottawa for WC2
3 game winning streak
Dack on a 3 game goal scoring streak
Coming back from deficits

So many good things happening right now.

Happy New Year, everyone!!

:newyear:

I think when we are looking back at this season in April, we will look back to this month as the high point of the season... particularly the last three games.

I'm still not proclaiming playoffs, and I think we should be prepared for volatility, but it's been pleasant to be able to enjoy an extended stretch of games for the first time in years.

Great victory by the Habs! Best I've seen them play since the COVID Cup Run!

I'm not sure if they'll still deal the vets at the deadline, but if they do, the price is going up!!

Evans line is looking great. So is the Dvorak line. Slafkovsky I'm really liking how he's winning a lot of physical battles all over the ice. The defense looks solid with Carrier in (I'm really liking Carrier's game). And even the Dach line has chipped in, and Dach is looking a bit more competitive/comfortable.

Pretty exciting all around. Oh and Lane Hutson is playing top pairing minutes I think. Wow!

That's the silver lining of the situation, there is no huge pressure to be a top team this season and he can get better slowly. And let's give him the kudos, he has been getting better and showing more each game lately since playing with Laine. There is now offensive production to offset some of the defensive blunders, before there was just the blunders.

I agree he's not where team needs him to get to, good thing there is time and potential.

I would try Heineman instead of Newhook in that line though.

I don’t think this is much on him or not him. Team has been doing well as a team and the goals have lifted all boats.

Definitely. Lines have solidified and the non functioning parts have started to function better than before. Never about one player, even though a good player back in lineup can always make things easier. Depth is now the weapon for this team. And then of course the danger of the PP.
