We Have A Gm Problem

Sorensen is interim. He doesn’t count.
King and Sorensen coached most of 2 full seasons, they count.

Bench boss is bench boss. Chicago hasn't had a vet there since Q and Danny Wirtz seems a bit reluctant of giving titles away apparently. Interim Gm, Interim HC, Interim HC, interim HC rockford (eaton) interim HC rockford (Sorensen), no captain for a year, who knows what else?

Can they hire an "owner whisperer" type of executive just to point this nonsense out to him?

Wtf is this nonsense?

What has he done to be considered a good coach?

Eight seasons as a head coach. Two playoff appearances and only advanced to the second round once.

I'd call that mediocre coaching.
I call it coaching mediocre to bad teams. Vancouver finished 1st in their division last year when they had no business even being in the top 3 in their division. He has a 0.623win% with a very mediocre Vancouver team over 3 years. Also dragged a bad Arizona team to the playoffs when they had no business making it.

I love when people say, oh he has only made the playoffs X amount of times, as if that represents bad coaching, instead of, you know, commenting on the actual coaching itself, not the results of the shitty teams he's coached.

100% agree.

You don’t win the Kentucky Derby if you have a donkey under the saddle. At best you hope to finish the race with everyone else in sight.

At same time, let's not confuse good PDO variance with "coaching" necessarily.

He’s failed in Az he’s failing in Vancouver on a team that should have had no problems making the POs
lol what? Arizona was always garbage, and Vancouver had Kevin f***ing Lankinen as their starting goalie most of the year. They shouldn't have even been sniffing the wildcard as late in the season as they were.

Vancouver had much bigger problems this year than their coach. Demko's health, the Miller v Pettersson bullshit, Pettersson turning into a pumpkin.

I wouldn't be interested in Tocchet here personally but he's not the problem in Vancouver.

I’d be pretty happy if Tocchet was our next coach.

That Vancouver roster has a ton of flaws. Their top scoring forward is Boeser who doesn’t even have 50 points. That’s pitiful.

Just go look at their starting lines on DailyFaceOff…. It’s a train wreck.

I like Jay Pandolfo. Not as my first choice but I think if you’re putting Carle in there Pandolfo deserves a shout.

Interim doesn't count, they are just temporary fill-ins promoted internally to account for a Coach being fired mid-season and a decision to not hire a new full time coach right away.
Yes, I think we all know what the administrative purpose is of the designation.

"not right away" has been most of 2 of KD's nearly 4 ish seasons. That's head scratching stuff.

It's still a decision how to address the position, at the very least. (Changed 4+ to 4-ish for time in the position)

If Sorensen had coached 10 games to finish the season that would be one thing, but he’s going to have been the coach for nearly 60 games this season. I’m not giving KD a complete pass on the train wreck Sorensen has been. That’s on him for not finding a better go to plan if you do decide to fire someone.

Bedard’s season has been an absolute disaster and a lot of that goes back to coaching. KD absolutely gets blame here.

Look at Blues for example. They fired their coach and brought in a great alternative and they’ve been on a roll ever since.

Blues situation was different, Montgomery was only going there so KD had no chance with that! Would have loved to get him though!! I dont think there was a great option in the middle of season to bring in. Better chance to make the hire in offseason as some coaches might come available.

Of course it was different, every coach firing situation is always going to be different.

My point is KD didn’t have a plan and ruined basically a year of development of Bedard because of piss poor coaching.

They should have fired LR in the off season when they had a longer time to evaluate who a better option would be for this season.

Terrible comparison - the Blues are spending to the cap on a veteran heavy team with playoff experience.

This is a tank year by design for KD and the mission was accomplished.
