The Hawks were never going to be competitive (even to the point of approaching playoff contention) this year short of a major overhaul of the roster. Anyone expecting otherwise was delusional.

Next season (25-26), I expect some noise but still missing the playoffs by a reasonable amount .Should be more competitive during games, and more enjoyable to watch.

26-27 will be the real test. A successful rebuild starts pushing into the playoffs that year. That’s the timeline. If they’re not competing for 6-8 seed, then Davidson will be behind schedule.

He's a good soldier, but he doesn't need to be part of the future. Get a 2nd or 3rd round pick for him and give Reichel, Slaggert, or even Kurashev those minutes for the last 30 or so games.

Lack of decent UFAs, plays a good bottom 6 role, you know what you are getting. Defintely don't overpay him, or pay for too long, but I don't see the downside to bringing him back. There are much worse players on the roster that should be replaced by better/different players.

My argument has always been that Chicago would have been better off keeping younger players like Hagel and Strome than doing a 100% burn it to the ground rebuild.

It is too easy to fall into the abyss of perpetual rebuild and now Chicago is willingly there. Winning is about skill and belief. Chicago is an atheist hockey team right now. Changing that will take years.

I've never encouraged a lack of patience, I'm completely discouraged by the lack of signs of progress. Chicago MUST take chances on players like Kiliyev, Askarov, Tolvanen, Kakko, etc.

You have to get players and hope from anywhere and everywhere when you're a black star.

It was unacceptable to have another roster like last year’s. It was filled with sub-NHL talent, an embarrassment to the league, and awful for us fans to watch.

Davidson at least tried to do something about it. He brought in Teravainen and Bertuzzi to be top 9 depth. He brought in Martinez and Brodie for vet depth on D. He brought in Broissoit for goaltending depth. How is that not better than filling our roster out with: Tyler Johnson, Guttman, Katchouk, Entwhistle, Anthasiou, Blackwell, Reese Johnson, Tinordi, and Megna???

He made those statements in the offseason and sought to make the team better so he went out and acquired NHL talent. If that counts for nothing to you then you’re just a meatball and not worth the argument. Brodie is terrible, Martinez hasn’t been healthy, but our younger Dmen are getting minutes now and looking pretty good. Teravainen has been disappointing for sure but his contract is fine and he’s a WAY better option than what we had last season.

The point of a real GM who is rebuilding is too identify young talent and when someone comes along you shouldn't just pass on them because the roster is clogged with wait for it "bums".We already know Kurashev and Reichel are not the guys so why not roll dice on someone else like Kaliyev who might just need a change of scenery. Its constantly like KD thinks he is the smartest guy in room complex.

I was disappointed the Hawks didn’t make an offer on him personally. The equivalent package Seattle sent over was more than fine. I would’ve done a 2nd and a prospect at most.

No, I'm asking as you've indicated it's malpractice that Kakko isn't here. What do you offer that NYR obviously says "yeah no duh" ahead of the Seattle offer for the rest of the season of Kappo Kakko and the right to skip the line on a potential UFA deal (as a player with 1-year left of Arb-RFA). They probably wanted Borgen and his cheap deal to replace Trouba in lineup spot, although I'm sure you could offer someone/something good enough to make them care less.

no offense but any GM couldve torn down our roster and drafted Bedard. He really hasnt done much else to improve our future other than through the draft which again, its not hard to trade good young players for picks.

There’s been like 25 players on waivers the past two weeks and plenty of random trades but we’ve brought up two. Kaliyev and Kakko, two talented fowards who weren’t doing well with their teams. Seems like what we need more of. Talented forwards.

It’s not a big deal either that we didn’t, not the end of the world. I’m not calling them saviors. It doesn’t have to be so hyperbolic. He shouldn’t be fired and they aren’t saviors. But we need better forwards.

one is D player (brodie) the other is a forward. the D was signed so we did not have to force any of the young D into the NHL. I would have been open but we are already sitting Kurashev (probably better) most games. in fairness to a player on waiver's (young players) you should only take him if you are going to give him a real shot. not fair to take him for 2 weeks scratch him most games and wave him again.

I get that the idea of acquiring a young, highly drafted, player like Kakko at a discount because he wants out is intriguing. So we all think that we can get that guy for spare parts. But when multiple teams want that guy, that discount isn't so attractive anymore. People have said that they would be ok with Kaiser and a 2nd going the other way for Kakko and maybe I would be too. But you can argue that the Rangers would have taken Borgen anyway. He has more experience and is a right handed shot.

When it comes to claiming Kaliyev on waivers, yeah it costs literally nothing right? Well it does cost a roster spot. Sure we could put a variety of guys we have at the bottom of our roster on waivers but then we won't be able to trade them for anything at the deadline. So yeah, let's say they claim Kaliyev and put Kurashev on waivers to make room. I wouldn't hate it but I wouldn't really love it either.

So you wanted to go from -111 to +111 in one season. Im not sure if you are aware of that but that is not realistic. UFA signings tend to have modest impacts. which UFA signing has been Big this year? if you are trading assets for players you have to evaluate what type of player you might be in 2-3 years when you might be a playoff contender. When KD took over he did not have a high 1st in 2021 and did not have a 2022 1st (his first draft) our prospect pool was bottom 5 in the league because bowman kept putting old band ads on. right now on the blackhawks you have Vlasic and bedard, as young players that look part of the core and Allen, reichel Dach nazar would could be. then in the AHL we have KK, ARTY who will probably be added to the core in the next year or 2 (they are the only sure things IMO. guttman del mastro slaggert could be NHL players. all of which were pre KD
2022 we will add Rinzel, thompson, James greene to the AHL next year
2023 lardis moore added next year and kantersov in 2 years
2024 Sacha, vanancker, mustard, speallacy and pridham (lesser extent henry) are still a few years from AHL but have trended very well compared to there draft stock and all have size and speed.
and we have one of the most draft capital in the league over the next 3 drafts and more then likely add a little more this year.

we are in a OK spot. I hope next year we can get down another 35 +/- which would put us at about 1 pt per game (80 or so PTs) and then the next season (even+/-) which would be a playoff contender. of the teams in the league how many do you think could possible be called ST cup contenders? my quick look says 6-7 is your goal to be AVG or be part of those 6-7 for 5-10 year stretch?

Jake Walman's name got thrown few times but I believe Detroit Red Wings didn't shop him, just called SJ Sharks and they said yes.

For culture you can't trade everybody out, 4-5 maybe max. Hall, Donato, Kurashev and Martinez out of team TD or summer. AA obviously.

For those holes sign better vets a'la Bertuzzi and Teräväinen.

I don't mind if kid steal roster spots from vets if the kids are ready, if they are not then let old farts play in NHL.
