We Have A Gm Problem

Sharks?

They fleeced Stanley out of a 1st round pick

Their fans are doing backflips
I've seen several pissed at the zutterland trade especially and the Walman move. Especially for a team with only 1 strong top pair D prospect

Not even a year ago San Jose got a second to take on Walman, and then got a first when trading him away.

Yet KD can’t even get a second for Donato when Beauvillier did and he’s on pace for 17 goals and 9 assists. While not the end of the world, it’s frustrating he couldn’t capitalize on a trade for a guy having a career year.

My guess is KD overplayed his hand. Donato is not exactly the player I’d have been stubborn over, and while I don’t mind if they re-sign him, there will be 50 other UFAs they could have replaced him with instead.

It’s another small move, or lack of, that has me questioning KD as being the guy.

start adding them all up..Why does he constantly seem to be helping out other teams?? Why are we never in on young ascending players or young guys who need change of scenery. Why are we accumulating tons picks? Why are we never a forward thinking organization period under KD?

Not defending KD, as he's still Rick Hahn in my eyes until he proves otherwise. But I like keeping Donato, If they sign him for 3 years, the caphit is irrelevant. They wont have cap issues in that timeframe. I feel it's hard to build this thing up if they're constantly shuffling off overperformers for the best draft pick offer.

Why look at 50 other UFAs when you know Donato, know what he can do and how the guys respond to him? Seems like being busy just to be busy.

Because I’ll take the Donato alternative + second round pick vs Donato and no pick.

He is a replaceable guy who doesn’t play well with Bedard, who our terrible coaches often try and force anyway.

After tonight's win, the Hawks are still 2nd worst (by points percentage) in the league this season.

But they are only 6th worst since the start of the new year. 17th best since February 1st. And since March 1st, which coincides with a certain player getting moved, 5th best in the entire league.

Just reposting this in here for those who missed it in the GDT.

The Spencer Knight trade was approximately a week ago. I guess our definitions of "never" don't match.

Gotta wonder about the development side of the organization.

Reichel a young PPG guy in Rockford with upside is pretty much lost on NHL ice in every stint really just losing more confidence after his first few rookie shifts. Korch after his first year up early then the following in Rockford looks to be having a terrible time fitting in or even being given a clear role in being an offensive D, again less confident as time goes on. Bedard still having struggles at very basic NHL center position duties while also looking less confident this year too.

But, defensive D seem to be a position they can help develop?

Meanwhile, for everyone else it looks a lot better to not jump into the organization prematurely. Moore, Rinzel, Lev & Nazar all looking more poised & confident in a system they haven't spent more than a few weeks or less than a year in but all did one or two years in the NCAA.

I mean, if you're drafted at the very top by the Hawks this year? No question you should develop elsewhere your first year or two out of the draft.

Unless you're a stay at home D there's just no sign the Hawks are going to be the best at cultivating your talent from the inside right now. It's very much sink or swim behind a poor roster in the big time with too much organizational inconsistency. KD's vet signings & coaching haven't done much, if anything, to help lift the on-ice burden in easing more talented kids in one step at a time, IMO.

Whoa, what a terrible slide in effort, attitude, or just dedication it has been the last few games! The off season and 2025/26 can't arrive soon enough. KD has to right this ship soon and find the right coach to get a consistent effort out of the roster night after night. It's gotten really bad and it's just more of the same rot, rinse & repeat.

who exactly are the vets calling out in a team meeting, the roster is mostly kids and they've been good, its the vets that are mostly invisible every night

with the weak UFA class and guys getting 10-15% higher salaries I think moving bert could be a option. I would probably do that if we are able to sign Donato. you could also retain if it increases the value. with the cap going up. the cost to have someone retain on a 1 year deal is probably going to go down. plus how many more years are we really planning on being sellers. I wonder what Bert 30% retained to a team like buffalo might get you? Hughes? JJ?

I would be all over moving Bert. He doesn't fit the quicker style the younger guys play. Might have to retain a little more since we overpaid him a bit but who knows with this weak class?

I don't even know what I would do with Bertuzzi this off season, but probably lean towards nothing. He has 3 more years under contract so I wouldn't want to retain on that when Jones is occupying a retention spot for 5 more season after this one.

Would anyone even take Bertuzzi for free at this point?

I certainly wouldn't attach a pick to get rid of him and would just keep him and bury him on the 3rd or even 4th line if he continues to regress. Maybe hope he has a rebound year next season and is more trade-able when he has only a year or two left on his deal.

That sounds more likely with the 3 years remaining. Don't see KD willing to eat on him for 3 as you say.

Why would Bertuzzzi fetch you peterka who’s 7 years younger and more productive?

KD free agency have been an absolute disaster and I am worried more tha never how he is going to botch this upcoming FA by bringing in vets to try to improve the roster yet dont fit in with kids ..ie Bertuzzi, Athanasiou, Brodie

Those are all just placeholders until prospects are ready!! Wouldnt read too much on them!!
