Post-Game Talk: We’re all smilin with you tonight Stu

Not sure if you saw my comments but it was a brilliant move. KK put Kap and Pods with Drai in what was simply meant to be a shutdown line, a sawoff line allowing the Oilers to stack the other lines.

What deserves mentioning is this line rendered the Eichel line to absolutely nothing in this game and then the Oilers were able to roll Vegas in the other matchups and have more depth there.

Its not about Drai, its about changing his role and the team winning. No glory and highlights, but this was essentially Bryan Trottier keeping a clean board and giving up nothing so that his team could win the other matchups.
Draisaitl is one of the best rebounders from a bad game that there really could ever be. Didn't hear his name much last night but like you said its due to them shutting down so many chances.

100% and without the Eichel line and the PP Vegas doesn’t really have a lot to offer. Our PK was much more aggressive last night and didn’t give them too many looks.

I'd say he's had no bad games, just bad moments.
This is fair. I am the biggest hater of Bouchard around, given the risk he brings, but I cannot lie, he has been great. Especially in this series. I don't think I can recall a brain fart yet vs Vegas?

On another note, great game from Darnell, another one I bash constantly. That said, I am dying for someone to find where the stat for unforced icings is. He must be closing in to the most all-time in the NHL.

Despite the total dominance the advanced stats are relatively close in this game. Sure some of it is score effects but this is why I don't always put a ton of stock into these things.

Were they close after 2 periods? Lots of dumping the puck with a 3 goal lead in the 3rd might have contributed to that.

Went to the game, could tell the Oilers players and fans were getting into Hill's head. Not sure how he didn't get a penalty last night for embellishment, slashing (a couple of times) or roughing. More banging around his crease please, he seems like he will crumble mentally if we keep pestering him.

Putting Stecher back in was a 2 for 1 special: Upgraded Emberson and revived Nurse! Man Stecher is a gamer.

I haven't been liking Henrique's games but that was one of his better performances as an Oiler.

Kane is such a weapon. Stu was great.

Win the next one. That is all.
Stecher is a gamer. You saw it in that one play in the 3rd where Howden elbowed him in the face as both of them were racing to recover a Vegas dump-in. Stecher looked at the ref to see if their was a penalty call (there wasn't) and then proceeded to take out Howden with a reverse hit. It was the perfect combination of playing smart and not taking any crap.

Wow, it would be amazing if they can close this out in five games, just for the rest and repairs it would afford the (esp. older... which is everyone) guys. Wouldn't it be something to have nearly a week off, let Drai recover from whatever's ailing him, and maybe even get Ekholm ready?

Vegas of course will leave everything on the ice in game five, so it's not going to be easy.

This depth scoring has been impressive.

You know what? If the Oilers can close this out, they will have been in the Final Four three times in four seasons.

What a funny list. I don't know if I'm surprised or not.

On the one hand it checks out to have Hill and Skinner near the bottom. They've both been pretty terrible in a relatively small sample size that I've seen (I didn't watch Hill in round 1).

On the other hand, having ALL THREE of the last Cup winning goalies and FIVE OF THE LAST SEVEN Vezina winners (the other two didn't make the playoffs) on the bottom half of the list might tell you a bit about how much you should take the GSAA stat at face value (or not).

Bang on observation. xGF through 2 periods was 73% for the Oilers. HDCF% was 67% for the Oilers. Basically the third they shut'er down and played stingy, which skewed some data for sure.

Happened right in front of me, when Howden went flying I laughed. Great play. I think Stecher doesn't mind the chaos, which makes him well-suited to play with Nurse. Wins foot races and battles all game long and generally makes safe plays.

I didn't listen to the post-game so I didn't hear that but this f***ing guy. The amount of entitlement is out of control. What an absolute whining dipshit. Every f***ing game this guy is calling out the refs after them completely and utterly favouring his dirty, diving, piece of shit team. This makes me so mad. I guess when you are Bobblehead's pet team you are used to absolutely everything going your way and when it doesn't you can whine like a petulant child.

How is this guy just allowed to continually call the league and the refs out and absolutely nothing happens? No fines, no statements from the NHL, no consequences. If the Oilers said 1/10th the shit this f***er does they'd be raked over the coals. And we all saw how that one c**ksu**er ref held a grudge against McDavid for years for simply pointing upstairs. The refs would f*** over the Oilers even harder if they said anything. It's the same as the LTIR rule. As long as Vegas does it, it's fine, but the Oilers try it and watch the league come down with all sorts of bullshit against them. So f***ing sick of this 2-tiered league and the bullshit we have to put up with as fans of a Canadian team.

f*** I hate Vegas so so so so so so soooooooooooooo fuuuuuuuuuuucking much. Clown organization with a clown coach and clown f***ing players.
He should probably tell Mcnabb to stop knocking players into the goalie. He also seems to forget our goalie got hurt by them running him

I am loving playoff Janmark. I don't love the penalty on Adin Hill, but that fired up the guys.... and if he scored that breakway coming out of the box the roof would have exploded

Wasn't a penalty... just gamesmanship from Hill... replay shows he CLEARLY stuck his foot out to initiate contact with Janmark who barely coasted through his crease.

On the other hand - all three of the last cup winning goalies have been kind of garbage in this playoffs.

Vasi got lit the f*** up.

Bob straight up lost Florida the first two games of that Toronto series playing like a complete sieve, although he likely won them game 4.

Idk, having watched a lot of playoff hockey, that chart matches the eye test pretty well to me. Perhaps the take away is less "we shouldn't trust stats" and more "goaltenders are too fickle to trust as your anchor for 8+ years"?

Which kind of feels like conventional wisdom to me.

Lol Cassidy saying in the post game he's going to get the league to look into why we didn't get more penalties for going into the crease. Unreal.

What!?! The!?! Actual!?! f***!?!

Vegas begging for more phantom power plays post game is classic Vegas.

Maybe Cassidy should ask his goalie why he was an unhinged mess in the first period and allowed the Oilers to rattle his cage so much.

Of course the refs/league/Gary will swallow it whole so expect a 6-1 power play ratio against the Oilers tomorrow.
