As a team the Oilers have matured substantially. Outside of the first 12 games this year most of what you say about the team defensively has not been the case. They have won in a variety of ways this year.

As far as the bolded is concerned, I think you would be surprised to find out how many of the Oiler posters on these boards were around for the entire Oilers run in the 80's. If I had to guess I'd say it was 40%+ of the board.

You might have the absolute worst takes I've seen in this thread, and that's saying

I think every team is concerned about Hyman. If you only focus on mcdavid then hyman will burn you. Towards end of kings series they had to over commit to Hyman and that freed up drai and mcdavid. Too many offensive weapons when you got oiler Centre depth.

Hard to explain to a nucks fan ;)

Lmaooo are you doing satire? He's literally more dominant than mcdavid during playoffs. He's called "playoff drai"
Drai has been a monster.

i read and responded to the part where you thought it was relevant to mention in praising oiler defence prowess compared to nashville that the oilers blocked more shots than nashville in their respective series without also noting the oilers also allowed more shots on goal than nashville.

if spotting that gaping hole in your logic makes me a genius, i guess i am guilty. if you now want to bloviate and pivot to discussing shot location, something you did not mention at all previously, and then act like you have decisively refuted my point when you haven't even answered it, then that is also pretty hfboards to me. maybe more so than your original post.

Please go back and read what you quoted

I said "they were able to keep most of the play to the outside all series against LA". How did i not previously mention it?

Edmonton scored first in 4/5 games and led all but 20 some minutes of the series. They were happy to just chip the puck in deep and hang back to defend. Like I mentioned originally they kept the play the the outside, LAs shots were low quality.

There's no pivot bud

I didnt even say Edmontons is better defensively than Nashville, i just said they blocked more shots. They're willing to pay the price too

Sure. But throwout the first 12 games and the last 10 games and that one bad streak they had in between plus a few other bad streaks when they weren’t really trying and they’re the top team in the league.

2 more weeks then you can justify Canucks losing by posting something similar to this.

VAN will probably win a game or two, but most of their best players are not big time players. Hughes is great, but he's really the only player they have that is of any concern. Demko won't be at 100% if he even plays, so VAN is going to be in tough. Good season for them regardless, as a playoff win is progress.

Jt miller and boeser seem to be big-time players

That's like saying, "we're like Tampa Bay Lightning in every single way" except when it comes to winning...of course.
Not it's really not. There's degrees of success in any sport. Just because you don't finish first doesn't immediately qualify your team as a complete failure. There are big differences between the SJS and the New York Rangers. Also every team has different goals for their season. Measurements of success is based around those goals.

So for this year, would the Oilers be upset if they didn't at least make the WCF or SCF? Probably. The players are gonna be mad if they don't win it all. Would it objectively be considered a complete failure if Edmonton made the WCF? No. Complete failure was what the Oilers were trending back in November.

You have the best player in the world. There's no excuse.

Winning is winning and you guys are complete failures.
Remind me again how many Stanley Cups your team has? I might have missed it

Pettersson is really the only guy you could make this case based on recent sample. The rest of them have largely shown up in big games.
