What future did they sell? They kept their best prospects and all their nhl ready ones.

Giving up a late first and a B prospect is not selling your future.

What is selling your future then?

You don't think trading a 1st for a rental is not a sign of a team going for it? They went for one of the top rentals.

Vancouver's core isn't young. They haven't had much success, but clearly the management realizes their window didn't just open. Vancouver's core is older than Edmonton's, they've been under performing for years and the management went and got one of the top rentals this year. They also traded for Zadorav, Lafferty - are giving out 11M+ contracts. This isn't some young newly rebuilding team.

the melt down in Edmonton if they lose to the Canucks would be priceless. Canucks core is just starting to get their playoff experience, they weren't contenders coming into the season so this is all bonus points. Oilers came into the season as a cup contender with playoff experience.
Yeah, the Canucks are still very much evolving here, so even if we lose, this will be valuable experience.

Who on Vancouver will be ineffective in 4 or 5 years?

Petterson?
Boeser?
Demko?
Hughes?

I can definitely see miller trending down but the core is young and on the way up

Going for it and selling your future are two very different things. Yes, we have a up our first and a decent D prospect, but kept lekkerimaki, podkzin, karlsson, Willander. Those are the guys we need over the next few years. The pick is what 26th or later? Thats just a crap shoot at that point.

The 94 riot was hockey fans spontaneously boiling over to a breaking point.

2011 there were flyers spread and organized groups who were going to riot regardless of how the game ended

Looking forward to McDavid and Draisaitl feasting on Vancouver's defense. Wouldn't be surprised to see them put up the same type of performances they did against Calgary in 2022.

Every team that goes for it does the same thing.

Teams that go for it trade prospects and picks for rentals. That is what Vancouver did. It is selling your future because you are selling future players for current ones who may not even be with the team next year.

That's like Carolina arguing they didn't go for it on the Guentzel trade because they gave up a second or very late 1st. Vancouver definitely went for it this year. No one trades a 1st for a rental for playoff experience - they were making the playoffs before the trade.

I never said they were a young or newly rebuilding team.

We gave up a third in 2026 and 2 fifth rounders for Zadorov and lafferty, Hardly selling the farm.

This series isn't going to be as wide open as people think. The canucks will still have Silovs or DeSmith in net, so they will play a more defensive style to limit the amount of Grade A chances, especially with McDavid out there.
So they're gonna play like the Kings?

If a gm of a team in contention for the presidents trophy doesn't try and improve his team at The expense of the future he should be fired

You're selling the farm. You haven't depleted it. Two different things.

However if you're arguing Vancouver can afford to do this year after year with no intention to win and it's all just house money then the farm will be depleted. They're going for it. Management didn't trade a 1st for fun.

I think every year a team trades a 1st round pick for a rental they're going for it. Not every team does it, only contenders usually do it.

Canucks also have a couple blue chip prospects in Lekkerimakki and Willander. Lekkerimaki is one of the highest scoring U20 players in SHL history. There is a ton of room for this team to get better.

Where did I say they did it for playoff experience? They did it to win in the playoffs, which they just did. Now on to round two.

Nucks are probably the favourites given the regular season results and they have home ice.

I think the Oilers come out flying and play with a major chip on their shoulder.

Canucks are down to their 3rd string goalie so that could play a factor.

Should be a fun series. Oilers in 6.

We traded our 1st when we sucked, so this feels fairly successful.

So you think they traded for Lindholm to win one round after winning the division?
