Just reading the main board series thread for 5 minutes, and it is overwhelmingly obvious that the average IQ in Edmonton is at least 30 points lower. Jeez louise I will be staying far away from that board

way too many things need to go right for van to have a chance in this series

but you never know. i made a stupid list of things allvin needed to do and he did like 80-90% of it and improved the team and people scoffed at it for being unrealistic (it was, but that’s what we needed to have a good season so similar logic applies here

pettersson from 13 months ago appears
mikheyev from two years ago appears
that third line finds consistency because they were in and out of form (mostly bad) in this series
hronek wakes up and stops putting donuts up
we don’t get killed on the special teams goal diff in the series
get back to having consistent threatening offensive shifts
our goalies significantly outplay skinner. like very significantly

i have the oilers in 5 here

Canucks in 7. The bash brothers, 91 and 57 will come up crucial in a long physical series. Pettersson will obviously have to wake up for it to go 7.

Obviously pulling for the Canucks, but looking forward even more to seeing Big Z blow up either McDavid or Draisaitl.......Those Oiler fans will lose their minds.

Canucks in 5, going to forecheck the crap out of them and our forwards are going to find it refreshing compared to Nash who basically sacrificed everything to win every battle and block every shot.

this is a very winnable series for us.

*we have much more depth - the best option will be to have miller match mcdavid, lindholm against the draisaitl line, and petey against derek ryan lol. if we tie those first two matchups at es - which is a very tall order - the series can be ours. where it becomes much more possible is if we can stay away from ekholm. pettersson is the x factor and needs to be able to feast on the kulak-desharnais and nurse-ceci pairings.

*keep things at even strength as much as possible - the oilers pp is lethal and they've figured things out on the pk (although la has a feeble powerplay) - with where our pp has been, if this becomes a special teams series we're f***ed

*need to get to skinner early. he doesn't have the mental fortitude of silovs. it's like getting to desmith. skinner is capable of a steady 25 save win if things go right, but if they don't, he will let in 4 weak goals on 20 shots. we have to win/close out the games where that happens

*not even joking, i think this can be a big series for ilya mikheyev as a defensive winger matching against hyman. hoglander will drive draisaitl insane.

*haven't been hugely impressed with tocchet in the playoffs so far, but i think he's a tier or two above knoblauch

*ian cole will be massive, as will soucy. i'm a bit worried about zadarov getting overzealous and we know what happens when myers is in chaos mode. those two i'm worried about.

*final hot take: i think hughes can have more impact in this series than mcdavid. not necessarily on the scoresheet, but if he's on the ice for 25+ minutes, that's tilted in our favour. we need him to be a norris level, future hhof'er in this series and i think he's more than up to the task.

One side note, McDavid and Draisaitl both have very good playoff beards. Not like Thornton level, but still very good.

Unlike Crosby who's basically perpetually stuck in puberty.

Nothing will bring me more satisfaction than shitkicking the Oilers. That's second to only a Stanley Cup

Because those regular season wins really don’t mean anything. Two were at the very start of the season. These are completely different teams.

Oilers have an insane amount of playoff experience over the Canucks - if they don’t win this, they are facing Leaf-like questions about their core.
bummer when an annointed team runs into a hot goalie
