So what is he suppose to do ? You have to manage minutes....And you don't want the third or fourth line out there against them.

You can't play Kopitar that much, and Richards line does ice the puck quite a bit with the home run passes Richards tries to feed Carter....

What the hell is Sutter suppose to do ?

Split up Richards and Carter on the road, make your center play stronger. That's what I would have done, he has split up Brown and Kopi, but he won't split up those two.

And even if Richards does get stuck out there against Thornton, it's not going to keep Carter stuck down in the defensive zone.

IN SJ

Brown - Kopitar - Williams
Penner - Carter - Toffoli
King - Richards - Lewis

It doesn't matter anymore though, no more games in SJ this year for us.

None of those people were responsible for the loss....

Nolan didn't cause a goal, He didn't help the lineup.

Muzzin has been on the ice for about two even strength goals all series.

Toffoli has a goal, yet hes sitting.

What's muzzin's plus/minus? The guy can't handle a puck if his life depended on it. He's the next Randy Jones.

While true, you asked what could be done. I would have preferred that Sutter tried to get Carter away from playing the entire game in the defensive zone that that game seven would not have existed...

Meh Carter played terrible on the road, Not sure he would have made a difference.

Every road game only one line showed up + Drew + Quick....You are not going to win road games like that no matter what the lines are or who is in the lineup.

To be exact, bad coaching decisions led to this loss and poor performance on top of that made a beautiful loss.

I just find it cute how the refs blew all the whistles until the sharks had a nice lead and no calls during the third.

A minus 2 one behind Drew tied with Regehr.

The kid hasn't even played that bad.

Muzzin is also playing a decent amount of minutes.

Burrish is a below average player and the sharks didn't deserve the win. It was painfully obvious that the only way we lost tonight was by beating ourselves. The sharks aren't the reason we are playing a 7th game. The Blues were a much better team. The difference is that we played much better against them and are now playing down to the much lesser sharks.

I think everyone in sj should be happy that we are struggling and take the gift that they are being given by us.

I think that's a copout. The Kings lost tonight despite playing 30 very strong minutes, then getting plain outplayed by every Shark on the ice in the other 30. That isn't beating ourselves, that's being beaten by a better squad.

I agree with this, the Sharks played a perfect third. They played like the Kings do in the third with a lead.

Just shut it down.

You can't spot a Home team a lead in the first five minutes of the game, in the playoff's.

That is going to make your task way harder.

Would disagree with this.

How many times did the Bruins go 7 games during their 2011 cup run? Canucks also went 7 games in 2011.

Pretty sure the Devils went 7 games against Florida last year too.

Canucks and Devils didn't win... This team already looks exhausted, and I'm pretty sure the 2011 Bruins were the extreme exception.

Well sure, but we're discussing what could have been done to make it so that more than just one line showed up on the road. It's all academic now, but I would have just liked to see something get tried. If we manage to advance and we hit a similar roadbump in the next round, I'd consider it a big failure to not make any adjustment for the second straight series.

Anyway, on to Tuesday!

The other problem the Kings have in comparison to the Sharks is that they've had bottom line and grinder type guys like Galiardi step up into greater ice time and make the timely play, not being a liability. We put a guy up with Kopitar and he hasn't done anything except for take penalties and shoot it into some guy's back and it luckily fall on Kopitar's stick.

Kings lost every 50/50 puck, especially in the neutral zone. Doughty was dead too, god bless him he played great but he was out of gas.

Second line had no jump, probably tired from chasing Jumbo Joe around. Kopitar stuck between a struggling Williams and probably the worst player on the team not named Nolan.

The 3rd line looked great, wish DS would have gotten Brown with Kopi sometime in the 3rd as Brown had nice jump. I have still yet to hear anyone give me one reason why Clifford is playing, much less on the first line. It has to be the biggest mystery on the team. He can't do anything with the puck, and DS has him with our best offensive player.

I like this. I just wish Sutter had more confidence in Toffoli and Martinez. Muzzin, Nolan, King have all played bad.

Everyone played way too long of shifts in the third, The coaches didn't manage minutes good at all.

Every player that mattered on the Kings was dead with two minutes left.

The Sharks kept shifts short. The Fourth line not giving the Kings good shifts, is killing them on the road.

Hell watch the DVR, Richards is out there almost the entire last two minutes.

Saying the team has played too many games, which is nonsense.

Plenty of teams have had series go Seven games and won the Cup.

Flat ****ing ****** game to watch. Dunno why Sutter tampered with the lines that won the previous game. Please put Martinez and Toffoli in....

I don't feel good about this upcoming game. The Sharks have been on the ropes before, this group never has. We have to play the same way we played in game 5. Anything short of that and the boys will golfing.

I get that part of why Sutter changed things up was to try to jumpstart things but I don't get Clifford up there, other than Sutter loves him. Didn't understand King being on the 2nd line either for far too long this year.
By his post game comments, it looks like he's keeping the 3rd line together. Hopefully the right half of the Jekyll and Hyde team shows up on Tuesday.
It doesn't make sense that a team can play so well at home and do a 360 on the road.

And why can't anybody win faceoffs???

Alright, you inspired me to do a little research....

2012 - Kings: Did not go 7 games
2011 - Boston: Went 7 games in the 1st round and 3rd round
2010 - Chicago: Did not go 7 games
2009 - Penguins: Went 7 games in 2nd round vs Washington
2008 - Detroit: Did not go 7 games.
2007 - Ducks: Did not go 7 games
2006 - Carolina: Went 7 games in 3rd round vs Buffalo
2005 - Lockout
2004 - Tampa Bay: Went 7 games in 3rd round vs Philly
2003 - New Jersey: Went 7 games in 3rd round vs Ottawa
2002 - Detroit: Went 7 games in 3rd round vs Colorado

So just taking a relatively small sample size of the last ten NHL seasons, 60% of the teams that won the cup played at least one 7 game series before the Stanley cup final.
