Richards - Kopitar - Gaborik
Pearson - Carter - Toffoli
Brown - Stoll - Williams
King - Lewis - Nolan

Roll it.

I have always liked the Brown-Stoll-Williams together. They hustle and play off of each other so well. But there's no way I want to see Richards anywhere near the 1st line.

He won't have to worry about the center heavy-lifting. His hockey IQ is still there offensively, he's just done physically. With Kopitar and Gaborik carrying the play he can chip in off a broken play, maybe make a nice pass to Gabby if he's really having his day and call it a day.

This is actually about how I project next years Kings team to look, with the obvious exception of having someone different (but with a similar salary) as first line lw and atleast one new body on the bottom six.

That's what is going to be so nice with the buy out, Dean can add someone who is worth the money and suddenly the roster looks quite a bit deeper and better.

More worried about the D than the forwards next year.

Forbort needs to take a big step next year, McNabb as well.

Kings need to get Gravel signed. Gravel not signed yet has me worried.

Is actually a really interesting though, to be honest.

Agreed, but more from the standpoint of "how do we become more mobile yet stick to the identity that you know Sutter/DL won't diverge from?"

This years Draft is not going to help either, the NHL roster anyway.

None of the late First round Defenders look stellar. They all look like your typical projects(3 to 4 years out).

Yeah, but how often do you go into a draft expecting an impact player within a year or two. Not very often and when you do, you're usually a ****** team that gets a stud like Seth Jones.

I worded it poorly,

There is no Boom or Bust Defender's you could maybe take a chance on.

They all look pretty vanilla.

Richards only played 9 minutes, hes hit absolute rock bottom.

I am surprised Sutter hasn't tried him on Kopitar's wing, pretty much everyone else on the roster has tried that position.

What in the hell happened to THIS Mike Richards??

I'm all for Dean buying him out this summer. He's got nothing left and we've seen his play drop off considerably since he was traded here. He's one of those guys who likely will only play well in one city/org. and that's Philly. I'd love to see Hextall take him back this summer but you know they won't eat that entire salary. And no way in hell we'd see someone like Simmonds or Schenn come back. We'd be lucky to get a decent prospect in return at this rate.

His body can't keep up any more. It's a shame and makes me sad. Still one of the most decorated players in the history of the sport though. Love the guy, but it's time to move on.

Yeah, true.

And even Lewis was 1LW this season! :shakehead

Can we just bump the Mike Richards thread please, it's just getting so boring talking about the same thing with Mike.

He's suppose to be one of the reasons the Kings are so good, strong down the middle. Well the Kings are back to having no 2nd line center. Carter is much much better on the wing, but he needs a good center.....

Sigh.

You know what,

Lewis is going to make me eat my words next year. :) Watch him pot like 15 goals.

I'll wear a "I Love Trevor Lewis shirt" For like a week straight or something.

Drafts don't effect you that season for good or bad unless you are getting a Doughty type guy.

You start to feel the pain a few years later when you miss on guys. The Kings have players like Schultz and Greene playing on D this season and have some issues going forward because we missed big with first round d-man in 2007 and 2008 and while 2010 is still up in the air the development isn't what was expected. Even if the Kings hit on one of those guys (ex. Alzner in 07 or John Carlson in 08) our defensive concerns are quite a bit less.

Even Voynov who looked like a homerun pick has played like a third pairing defender at best this season.

It's amazing for so long the Kings had offensive issues, but if they can re-sign Gaborik and use most of MR's buyout on another top line winger (or even center if Carter stays at RW) and the continued development of TT and TP the Kings offense should be pretty damn good next season.
