Ducks fans have an irrational hatred of advanced stats. Part of it is that the Kings have been really good at them lately and the Ducks haven't. In fact they were one of the worst last year, which is why it was easy to predict their first round loss last season. They were much better this year (not great but better) but the hatred continues.

It's funny to me their obsession with "advanced" stats. For all too many of them all they know is that they are not generally considered good in it, so they make up things about the stats and the people who use them to attack those people. Just makes me laugh, if you are too stupid to see the value in things that help describe the game of hockey, your not worth anybody's time.

Stated much better than me (mainly because I don't even want to give the Ducks any of my energy).
 
People who deny advanced stats look like this...



...and trust me, you never want to be on the same side as Hawk Harrelson on ANYTHING, the only thing he was worse at than broadcasting was GM'ing the White Sox.

The "he does stuff that doesn't show up in the stat sheet" crowd look more and more ridiculous because there is almost a stat for everything.

If you take the Kings for example, look at the advanced stats for the Kings pretty much every one of them was spot on with how that guy played this year.
 
People who deny the importance and validity of advanced stats fall into two categories. They either don't understand them or they are a fan of a team that does poorly in them. The Leafs come to mind.

I'd be nervous if I was a Ducks fan instead of all the uber-confidence I see dripping all over the main boards. I mean, the Ducks outplayed a sloppy Kings team and still couldn't win. When the Sharks played a bad Kings team they scored 7 goals on them. What will the Ducks do when the Kings play a strong game?

I don't like advance stats when the Kings have a terrible offense and people are like well Kings are winning advanced stats!!!

I absolutely love advanced stats as a tool for Trolling Ducks fans! :laugh:

When the Kings couldn't buy a goal to save their lives (which has become a yearly tradition which in return has led me to become a raging alcoholic, but I digress) I remember a few of us fell back on the advanced stats stating how the Kings offense could only trend up - and it did. Having great puck possession numbers is a good thing no matter what.

However when Leaf fans would mock the advanced stats after winning games in which they were absolutely dominated, it was amusing to see the boomerang effect.

The Kings had some fun analyzing the kick save defenseman Alec Martinez made on Ducks star Corey Perry early in overtime. Martinez joked that he channeled his "inner goalie playing in the driveway when I was younger."

"Actually, Darryl gave me a hard time," Martinez said, looking amused. "He said that my rebound control wasn't very good. I told Billy Ranford, our goalie coach, that we should probably go over it today."

"Darryl told me I either have to kick the rebound out wide, not up the middle, or at least cover it and get a whistle. I guess I'll work on that next time."

Also, we didn't beat the Sharks they beat themselves.

You'd think the Kings were pulling some sort of 2012 Cryotes rope-a-dope style of hockey. Get outshot by a million and try and win with timely goals and Mike Smith try and win it for you.
 
I'm glad the Kings won this and I hope they win the series so I can shove it in the face of this loud mouth Ducks fan that is on my beer league team. The guy was popping off the whole night while we watched at a bar in Long Beach. I don't get why Ducks fans feel the need to filibuster about how great the Ducks are or why they are better than the Kings. At one point I told the guy I didn't realize I was going to be sitting next to Hayward while we watched the game. That flew over his head. Then I decided to start responding to his ranting and commenting by barking like a puppy. He sure looked like a dummy when they lost.

Strolled by the post-game show on the way out prior to filming starting...told OD he is a stud and we could use him in place of Regher next game, to which he grinned. The awesome troll job, however, was Kent French playing with his cell phone and me yelling out "You can check the score on your phone Frenchie but they still lost!"

Again...what an awesome experience. All the rage I had walking out of the Stadium Series debacle got flipped on its ear last night. Lot of hockey left to play but, at present, I was in person for the most important game in Kings/Ducks history and the Kings came out on top in their barn.
