This is a great example of people not being able to apply context to advanced stats.

The oilers had their second pp unit start the pp in the third. The game was over before the period started and advanced stats in garage time of a blowout are a poor indicator of anything.

Shots on goal and scoring chances aren't advanced stats. Did you actually read my post?

My post was towards a poster saying that Vegas was outclassed at all aspects of the game. This is a playoff game, not the regular season anymore. You don't stop trying just because you're up 4 goals, there's still a series to win.

Had Matthews or Marner scored 128pts with Draisaitl scoring 60 goals but 105pts ala Matthews no way Drai would have won anything over Marner.

Kucherov is closer to Drai than Matthews.MacKinnon is probably ahead of both. Mix in top level D and goalies and Matthews is not top 5.
Even Ratchuck is joining the top tier now.

Bottom line is that outside GTA ..no one really considers Matthews a top 3 player. He is still an excellent player as are Nylander and Marner..

The Oilers didn't "stop trying," they just didn't throw an even vaguely high risk pass in the offensive or neutral zone for 2 periods because there was no need for them to. They blew leads against the Kings in round 1 playing that way.

High danger chances were 20-5 for Edmonton after 2 periods. Congrats to the Knights for a minor push in the 3rd when the Oilers were putting their 4th liners on the ice for a power play but that game was not close.

GG Oilers. Obviously deserved. Brutal to be there in person for it but what can ya do? Hopefully Vegas has better effort and execution in game 3 win or lose. They faced one instance of adversity and crumpled up.

Tonight was close to them at their best. They’re capable of it occasionally and maybe occasionally enough to go deep but if they could be this team consistently they’ve be scary.

Well sure if you leave out that Matthews missed 9 games and turn 123 points into 128. 106 points in 73 games was 1.45 points per game, only .09 behind McDavid and without including points into an empty net he was the best point producer in the league. Not to mention he vastly outperformed all the other top scorers in defensive stats like hits, takeaways, blocked shots, possession metrics, etc., It's not like he was just scoring goals and that's it. Matthews winning the Hart and Lindsay last season was not a hard case to make let alone the robbery you're trying to frame it as, especially considering the season prior he was the runner up for both.

Matthews is in the top ten for sure but #3-#10 are miles below McD and Drai.

Did you watch the game? The Oilers played shutdown in the 3rd with very little offensive pressure. Hill faced 4 shots.
