I think Schultz is in the lineup because as mentioned, he does have some playoff experience but mostly because Bodnarchuk and those guys haven't even suited up for a regular season nhl game to this point. Good luck trying to adjust to a playoff atmosphere when you haven't even had a taste of nhl game speed. Everyone starts with zero playoff experience, but very few get that start before having a few starts at least in the regs.

Krug is not the norm. Fairly sure he was undrafted as well.

Well, there's always a needle in the haystack. Schultz has NHL experience, case closed. If I was the coach he would be my first pick and Campbell would be my second. In fact, I'd put Schultz with Doughty.

Schultz might be slow, but he's never had a low hockey IQ. It's one of his stronger points, if anything. Unless he's completely lost it over the last year. But then, Morris only had good things to say about him and his play so I don't think that's the case. I think it's a confidence issue more than anything.

Also, if DS was paranoid about young kids, Pearson would be on the bench and Nolan would be in there. This sounds more like a bash the coaching moment veiled under the guise of analysis.

Well Pearson was only played when we went down 0-3. When the game would get hard, Schultz would fold, in Washington, a team I watch a lot because Ovechkin is a fun player, Schultz would constantly be out of position, he couldn't keep up with the pace and often he'd pressure a player and completely lose his man.

Hockey IQ is not a strong suit of his, never was. If anything the best thing about him is his size. Go ask any caps fan about Schultz. You can assume all you want but having one real good rookie defenseman in all of our pairing isn't dangerous at all. Neither have played with the kings. Experience can only do so much. It's like scratching Pearson to play Nolan or Fraser because of experience. Doesn't always mean it's the best choice when one is clearly better than the other.

^ it's on the first page. All is right in the world.

Feeling uncharacteristically calm about this game, for the playoffs. We've already accomplished the split. To go home up 2 would be incredible, but not a necessity to win the series in my opinion. A little nervous to see what our D looks like without Mitchell and Regehr, but always confident in this teams ability to step it up and fill in holes when necessary. The Duck's desperation given their overtime loss paired with the confidence the win should've built in our Kings team should have a nice effect on tonight.

Unless of course the NHL approved the Ducks fan's petitions to make the post count for half a point.

The ducks are down a pretty good stay at home guy also in Robidas.

I'll worry once we are exposed, not until.

the only difference is that Robidas joined the team around the trade deadline

so i don't consider it such a huge blow on their D since they didn't have him in the lineup for most of the season

it's like saying the Ducks don't have Souray either...

I dunno if they really want that, for a time during the regular season, we amassed a lot of half-points.

I really have a felling we will see something similar we saw two years ago during SC run. After winning in game one (that was always close and you could argue that it was "lucky") on the road Kings came out even stronger for game two and won much more effective way than game one.

Now I'll go to sleep for four hours and then wake up at 4:00 am... :yo:

I guess everyone sees things differently, but I saw the opposite from Schultz for most of his time in Washington. He was very reliable for the most part. He didn't start struggling until his play started to be interrupted by injury, first his rib IIRC then he busted his hand or something similar.

I agree that a rookie wouldn't disrupt our defense any more than Schultz will. I do feel however that against the Ducks and their relentless forecheck, I would go with the solution that has at least experienced that sort of thing in the past, which Schultz certainly has while in the playoffs with the Capitals. I also think his familiarity with BB's type of system will leave him knowing what to expect. I'm not as worried about him as most because it's pretty obvious that the Kings' system is well suited for these types. We've had plenty of slowpokes do absolutely fine here.

I hope Schultz has a good game though, I want to win at the end of the day regardless of how much I complain about line ups

You might be right.

Interesting thoughts, and as you point out, it started to go downhill for various reasons--coaching/systems, injury, and sickness (didn't fact-check the broken thumb and mono but those are pretty good reasons for a decline in a year). He never quite recovered which could be confidence or other issues. For a guy who is not super-smart hockey IQ wise or a good skater, all those system changes could really expose him, I'm sure. Will be interesting to see how he responds tonight seeing as he's had all year to get acquainted with the organization. Seems like at least a few people held out hope that he could be an effective defenseman with a change of scenery--not a lot of guys with that size and reach. So here's hoping.

look: we needed to win one on the road. we did that. Hoping to win both games in ANA to start the series even with WM and RR and no injuries would have been a huge order.

I can only realistically look forward to one of the following:

1. Quick steals us a game by making 42 out of 43 shots
2. RR and/or WM are ready for game 3 back at Staples.

I will say this, though, if we can somehow manage to win this game, like this, after the last 5, I wouldn't think anything could stop us. Not even the Blackhawks.

GKKKG.

Schultz will play around 13 minutes and be serviceable. Nothing fancy, just meat & potatoes hockey. Keep it simple stupid.

We beat the Ducks using 5 dmen for most of Game 1. I'm not too concerned.

Worst that could happen is we split the first two games.

Just hope we see RR or Mitchell back at some point during the series. However, I am concerned about Mitchell.

I mean, why does Doughty even need to participate in line changes anyway?

He's young, he can play for 60 minutes right?

How about we let Schultz actually play a game before we throw him under a bus? I swear, to listen to some of you, the 6th D-man and 12th forward are the most critical players on a hockey team.

Which is why it's funny when people call him fat still, even when he plays a ton of tough minutes. And he never gets tired. I love that he never gets tired.

Holy **** he's only 24. I can't believe he's 24. What a great draft.

Not much to complain about when things are going well ;)

Agree with the first part, but let's be real, it's not as if we didn't already replace someone else. Rolling with 5 D for the most part and maybe 10 minutes to the 6th guy still means one of Greene/Schultz is getting a lot of minutes. I don't think it's unfair to be concerned about the downgrade, though it is premature to raise the white flag.
