This all started early in the season, but Chayka took Kuemper standing on his head as a sign that he had a SC contender and decided to trade away assets for a rental. If Kuemper didn't stand on his head we probably would be in better shape for next year as some of the crap would have been traded.

If trading for players based solely on the idea that the goalie alone was the one keeping them in games, I would hope that it came with the concept that trading for that player also takes pressure off the goalie, say by scoring or influencing the offense more. Again, I think there were multiple positives floating through the early part of the season:

Our offense was generating goals. 74 goals in 28 games. I think that is about 2.6 per game.

Defense was keeping the team in games. 65 goals against in that same time frame. Bear in mind, Hjalmarsson was out until what, January? That's a good chunk of games without your most defensive defenseman on the ice.

I think that people forget that we were putting up some good showings. I don't think that the coach's intensity for pushing a) perfection within the system, and b) preparation for ways that opponents can break us down and means to counter/adapt were not as intense as the prep work that was put in by other coaches and their teams. When we had the better player added in Hall, teams knew they had to prepare for us more. Why our preparation in adding Hall didn't match what other teams were doing in their own preparation and the preparation to play us is what Tocchet needs to answer to Meruelo.

This is fair but keep in mind these contracts were signed at different times when the cap was at different levels. Obviously Mac is a steal.

I mean kind of, but not really. If ALL of your players are overpaid that's a pattern. For instance Koneckny in PHI signed long term for 5.5m at the same time Keller signed his massive extension, no reason to sign Schmaltz for so much right after we traded for him etc.

Also we picked up some guys in trades, but it's still horrible cap mgmt. A guy like Stepan you know would never be worth 6.5, no way we should trade a 7OA and Tony D for Step and Raanta. Too much of a package for a terrible contract.

Oh look another goal -- JT Compher's making 3.5m, he's paid less than 4 of our centers (Stepan, Schmaltz, Soderberg, DVo)

We've seen this crap since day 1 with Tocchet. When his team starts to lose he has absolutely no clue on how to coach them out of it.

0-11 or something first season? 20 games until ONE regulation win?

Once his team gets beat it's over for a long time.

Glad I was fortunate enough to be busy to miss this last half of game. Disgusting.

Ehh, Stepan used to be a 55-point guy, even in his first season in AZ. He was plenty worth his deal then. Obviously not now.

Stepan giving a good natured grin to the Avs D there is exactly what the Coyotes have been for three seasons now. That moment where he lagged and smiled after jokingly crashing the net after a muffin shot right to Grubauer’s glove is the Rick Tocchet era of the Coyotes. Perfect encapsulation of things.
Saw it and immediately thought the same thing.

f*** this team. I really don’t like anyone on this team anymore. Hall was an absolute joke this series to. I don’t give shit if he leaves either.

Get rid of this coaching staff tonight. Absolutely embarrassing. Can’t really say anymore.
