We can talk about Saros all we want but that was some BS defending including by the heart and soul ROR. I'm on the trade Saros train before his value further tanks but come on.

Hat tip to Sissons for missing what was more or less a layup ENG.

40+ foot shot with a defender taking part of the lane isn't exactly a layup. Nothing about Sissons missing that shot explains leaving Canucks shooters wide open for three of their goals. The failure to clear the zone cost us in both games in Nashville. Team defense is the issue with this season's edition. 3rd most goals allowed (near/at team worst in 5on5, 4on4, and against an empty net), 4th worst PK%.

This is a competitive team that is coming up just short against a division winner. About what is expected as a wild card ... except for Vegas and their mass LTIR return.

Well that 4th goal is just bad bad defense.

That is the worst playoff loss I have seen since the Chicago loss. This one stings badly.

Some of those late goals came with the 'nucks best players on the ice, and they have some really, really good players, against some of our AHL/NHL tweeners, who were out there as defensive specialists. That sort of lack of depth is how you build a team designed to lose in the playoffs, unfortunately. I think the last 3 minutes of that mess proved it in spades. :(

Weak ring around the boards by Josi, fail to cover down low, goal.
Beat all over the damned ice in OT, goal.

Bad team defense is a trend this season. Sorting negative defensive stat trends is ugly. Bruno hockey needs to figure out the play in its own end, not just how to attack down the ice.

GUTS !!!!! Vancouver has it! Down to your 3rd string goalie! Down 3 to 1 with 3 min left and they pull it out. History. Can we change our name now this a good time to cleanse us that name that does not hold up well. Nashville Panteras .

You only show up when things go bad, then align against the team. Why don't you change your name to Californian_attitude_in_Tennessee? You clearly have no guts to support the team.

2 Losses in a row where failure to clear by the defense has essentially shortly led to a goal and both those goals were daggers.

We've gotta clear our heads but going to be hard to bounce back in Vancouver after that loss. I think the season ends in 5, pretty sure I voted for that before anyways.

That being said, we were the better team on paper for these last two games and just some really bonehead plays lost us two close games. We're still 1-2 pieces away from contending it seems like.

We got in as a bubble team with admitted issues. We can play competitive hockey, but lack that next level to take control and dominate. We're mad that we're losing one goal games where we can point out individual moments that cost us .... we're not getting blown out and somehow a division winner isn't owning us for 50+ minutes a night.

We had the better goalie on paper. Up and down the roster, not so much. This is an underdog team that needs to play near perfect to get through this series and the defensive lapses of all season are getting exploited this series.

I was too caught in the “fans going crazy” part of the game prior to the immolation and I didn’t catch if Brunette called TO at any point? Did he and, if so, when? I’ll hang up and listen.

Yeah, tonight's collapse aside this is pretty much the deal.

I mean, as happy as everyone is with ROR this year for example (and he was good), he is our clear #1 center and is 26th in the league for center scoring. That's #1 center territory technically but not really what a contending team is looking for. 12 of the other 15 playoff teams have a higher scoring center (and Eichel easily would have been if not for 20 missed games so effectively 13). Many including the Nucks have 2. I know he brings other things to the table but he's basically a really solid 2C on a contender. Honestly the Preds only have one forward (Forsberg) who should really be playing on a top line for a team expecting to make a run. And it's not as if the forward depth is anything to write home about.

Defense corps is better (defense depth can look a little rough across the league- I'm pretty OK with ours all things considered even if Schenn and Lauzon certainly have their moments), but frankly it's a bit miraculous this team is even in the position it is given the star goalie had his worst season in.. maybe his career? And to kind of drive the point home it took a borderline miracle run to get here.

I think Brunette did a pretty great job this year, the problem going forward is that it's really murky whether the prospect pool is ready to take the next step which will have to happen sooner than later as the big club is not getting any younger at this point.

If you were a Perds fan, then this was the mother of all games for you.

However, this series, along with the season overall, is showing Trotz what he needs and also making some easier decisions for him.

On the positive, the vibe in the arena was pretty good until it wasn't good. Much better than Friday. We'll see if the boys roll over or decide to sack up and bring this thing back to Nashville.

That's all I have for now.

Can you express a cogent thought or is this quoted post the best you have to offer? It isn't even a real sentence and lacks anything resembling a point.

I could lower myself to personal attacks but I shall refrain.
Your the one that had a little temper tantrum on me posting ! lol Everyone is different in the way they try to get a point across. On a different note Sizzler was pretty much right at the faceoff dot so more like 20 feet. I'll grant he was on the backhand and had a little pressure, but that should be buried. Not that it should have mattered that much.

That is exactly what I was thinking ,this gives Trotz a prime example to see what this team needs.

Again, you didn't make an actual point or sentence. Quite frankly it is a challenge to figure out what you're going on about. If you think I fit into groupthink (it's one word in English) then you haven't paid any attention here.

Be better. Make an actual point and express it in a way that makes sense. If you refuse or can't, then bye.

This was a bubble team that a large portion of its fanbase hoped would tank. It exceeded expectations for the regular season and somehow got into the playoffs to get into a series with little room for error.

What the team needs is an upgrade on the blueline ... size with talent. Schenn is the extent of real size on the backend. Lauzon is barely above average size ... and neither of them are exceptionally talented. Vancouver is bigger than us. Seattle has a talented size on their blueline. We've lacked it for years.

We need Pärssinen or Novak to step up as center .. or to find one on the FA market. RoR wasn't counted on to be a top 30 scoring center. Expectations for Nyquist were wing on the second or third line. Overall they did well but they are far from elite. Best case to fill that 1/2 spot with moves over the summer and slide everyone down until Sissons is 4C, moving McCarron to the wing or pressbox.

Between the pipes is a conundrum. Saros has stretches of elite play coupled with runs of absolute mediocrity. Maybe Askarov steps up and takes that role from him. If not, Trotz has to find a goalie on the market. I expect those two to be our goalies to start the season with their play determining the mix and Saros's futre at the trade deadline.

Behind the bench we need Bruno to find a better defensive approach. Near team worst in PK% and goals allowed in multiple situations is not a recipe for success. We currently lack balance between scoring and keeping the puck out of our net and the last few games highlight the defensive structure issues.

Now to see what the team does in Vancouver and if we can steal a game there to bring the series back home.

I’d like to think this is one of those learning lessons where you have to lose hard before you can win but I don’t think we will learn.

This will sting for as long until we can find ways to win these type of games instead of losing them.

Was Josi at the end of shift on that tying goal? That was a weak ass clearing attempt when he looked like he had full control. He could have fired off the boards and worse case ice it.

Absolute fraud team that has no business in the playoffs.

This is what I had going through my mind the entire drive home. Basically propped up by a fantastic streak and came down to earth a little too soon. If this is what the mushy middle looks like then it seems the pendulum could easily swing the other way next season and get us a top 8 pick with a chance at the lottery.

Just sucks because our key guys are just getting older and I have no faith at all in the young guys. Novak looks terrible. The other hopes couldn’t even crack the roster this year. Vange looks ok but not like he’s a guy that’s the reason you turn a corner.

Oh well. Maybe I’ll feel differently tomorrow.

That "20 feet" doesn't account for the lateral distance. On the dot is approx 39 feet to the far post.

Trigonometry based on 20 feet from goal line to the dot. Dots 22 feet from center of rink. Shooting to far post adds 3 feet to the lateral, making it 25 feet.
