How are you confused, they called him to be the ebug each game, so they don't have to rely on some random goalie.

It also leaves Bako alone and let's the new kid they signed play in fort Wayne

Exactly. They want Bako to have a reasonable chance at winning a round or two or more. Bako is playing Ontario first round, and Game 3 is Sunday late afternoon as well. So if Bako gets eliminated in this first round, I suspect Campbell is just hopping in a taxi to meet them at Crypto to jump the plane to Edmonton to be their EBUG.

Hopefully we can control our emotions in the first 10 minutes or so of the game. I think that was an issue the last couple years and we took too many penalties.

This series is gonna be a marathon, not a sprint.
First 12 minutes last year, Edmonton was up 2-0 and the Kings had given Edmonton 2 PPs and LA had none. The year before KY took a penalty in the first minute of the game, but LA didn't score on it. LA eventually got up 2, but Edmonton tied it back up a couple times but ultimately lost.

The other three non-LA series, Edmonton generally shit the bed in the first game.

Game 1 in 2022: Mike Smith goes Mike Smith and throws the puck into the slot, chaos ensues and Kings score the winner late

Game 1 in 2023: Oilers choke a 3-1 lead late including getting scored on with like 20 seconds left in the game, blow it in OT on a Kings PP goal

quit beating yourselves Oilers and play a patient game....stay disciplined too

I haven't liked Kane's game for a while now, and when he's plugged in on the 4th whatever motivation he has seems to disappear. We'll see.. in more recent years this team tends to come out looking like shite and performing like shite in the first game.

Looking back, Edmonton has scored first in 4 of the 5 Game 1s played at home in the McDavid era, each time within the first 10 minutes. Twice they've built a 2-0 lead in the first period and held that margin going into the 2nd.

Somehow they've gone 0-5 in those games.

Hopefully if they get an early lead again, they buckle down and carry that lead home.

Was curious how Henrique and Carrick do against Kings the last 2 years. Here's the stats.

All we can hope for is that the playoffs motivate him whichever line he is on and that the extra time off has helped him a bit. A chance at a Stanley Cup, possibly his last real chance should be enough for him to park his feelings at the door, and if not, he can sit out and let other guys who'll give their everything a chance as he's not the only one that may be starting at his last real chance at a cup run.

Furthermore he relishes the villain role when they get to LA, so here's hoping he uses the playoff intensity to get him extra ice time. If he's going and making an impact, I've little doubt that Knoblach will give him more minutes.

I feel like we spent this last year learning how to protect a lead. Let's hope that changes that Game 1 Story.

Edmonton in game 1's has been generally good with this core group.

They've blown games because they can't stay out of the box. Say what you want about the state of the officiating but the Oilers definitely have a lot of hot heads and LA especially has done a great job of exploiting that the last few years.

March 2024:
  • Halifax average: $564,562
  • Edmonton average: $420,959
I really noticed the prices, particularly on the peninsula when I was visiting my folks in March, Lower salaries, higher taxes... with higher home prices? Brutal for the average Nova Scotian.
Try living in Vancouver. For $550,000 you can't even find a 1 bedroom condo unless its very very old.

Not much you can conclude from this. Only two of the games occurred when Anaheim had any hope at all and several of them during a time when LA would have really been chasing points in the standings. So the fact there aren't a lot of big minuses might actually be a good thing.

Just because Kane is on the 4th line that doesn't necessarily mean he won't see 12-15 minutes. I'm sure Henrique isn't going to share every 5-on-5 shift with McDavid. Kane will get ice time, maybe a shift or two, with McDavid.

I mean, admitting his sports hernia injury in a scrum before game 1 puck drop is weird, man. Everyone clams up at this time, using vague and opaque references to injuries i.e. 'upper body', 'lower body'. His entire career, he has eventually ran into trouble in the room with teammates given a long enough time line. An ego that will always march to its own drum and zero winning pedigree, despite all his years in the league performing at a pretty decent offensive clip. Pretty clear to me at least, his time is very nearly done here. Whatever happens, best to move on from him over the summer. I was pulling for this guy to clean up his act and somewhat transform himself here. Disappointed.

Yes, for the time being we hope he brings some level of nastiness but we have also seen him (injury aside) look utterly, thoroughly disinterested and disengaged while toiling on the 4th line. Again we'll see. I said it before and have been completely silent during the home stretch because I know the negativity is too much, but I have real doubt about this team's ability to go all the way here, with the makeup and composition of the lineup.

It is definitely one of the weirdest things I've seen as well, but Kane's always been unorthodox in how he addresses things which is likely a big reason things transpire the way they do with him in previous stops. I'd have thought it was time to move on from him this summer regardless as I think he's the most expendable of the bigger money players on the team and as he ages, he's likely to have a sharp decline in the style of game he plays and like Lucic, I can't see him re-inventing himself to make himself useful in a different/lesser role.

My comments were solely in hope that he recognizes he doesn't have many more reasonable shots at a cup run and hopefully if he's motivated by the desire to win a cup, he can keep himself in check for the next couple months.

My concern is that nothing has seemingly ever superseded his ego. He has never been able to sublimate that, keep a lid on it, contain it, long enough to be a force on a winner. Like you, like all of us as fans of this team, I hope -- but if he is clearly failing to contribute, in effort and production, I don't want him in the lineup when the spot can go to someone else who is able and willing to do whatever it takes for the team to win.

Good discussion. GO OILERS.

Islands in the stream.
Kings are icing a fully healthy lineup. A little concern there but I dont think Talbot can steal them a series
Strange to me Talbot is getting the start. They've been trying to get him to resurrect his game for awhile. He was just awful in recent starts still. As questionable as Rittich is he's been better than the old version of Talbot.

If Kings had quality goaltending they would be more a concern.

If I were in their shoes I would be starting Talbot only because he has the ability to be streaky and get randomly really hot. However, that is a hope proposition, nothing that can be banked on.

talbot needs to play so Perry can grab his pad and let us score so we can close that loop forever
