I hardly recall it ever being done intentionally. They had the goalie only rule since the 70s til this came in. In my mind it should only apply if the player straight up shoots it out on his forehand facing the opposite end of the ice, these ridiculous behind the net backhanders that go out or the batted out of mid air over the glass probably should not apply
