"This is the first series of the postseason where the model is really out on a limb relative to the market. We have the Oilers at 53 percent favorites, while oddsmakers view the Stars as 56 percent favorites. That’s a big difference."

"While the model has a strong hit rate in these playoffs when there’s a discrepancy against the market, it does feel like it’s on the “wrong” side here. Conventional wisdom suggests the Stars should be the favorites. They’re the significantly deeper team at every position, with stronger goaltending and a much better defensive cachet, and they’ve proved their mettle against two tougher opponents."

Do the Oilers have any guys other than Henrique who are questionable/dealing with injuries?

McDavid is 100% dealing with an injury and has been all year. He's shooting at 6% right now, shot at 18% last season and his career low was his 2nd year @ 12%

He's been reluctant to shoot all year and has been over passing a lot, thats why he hit 100 assists this year and his goal totals dropped by 30

I do wonder if we're ever going to hear about what's going on with him

Ceci said in a recent interview that a few guys were pretty sick this last series, so hopefully they're feeling better. Ekholm had his minutes greatly reduced in the latter half of the Vancouver series and sounded sick as a dog in his interview on the 14th

Draisaitl got banged up in the first game against Vancouver but seems to be fine now

I’d say the Stars certainly have the advantage, especially when you look at goaltending but I don’t think it’s going to be a cakewalk for them.

For Edmonton it’s all going to come down to being consistent and limiting mistakes. i wasn’t able to watch the back half of the series but the Oilers seemed to go to sleep at times and let that series be closer then it should of been without Demko in net. They brought it when the chips were down in 6-7 it seems like but even still in classic oilers fashion they go to sleep for 5 minutes and let Vancouver make the score close in a game that wasn’t really close at all for 50+ minutes.

Thats the crux of the Oilers issue, they can play with a strong defensive structure 90% the time but when they do make mistakes it’s about as egregious as it gets and Skinner just isn’t the kind of goalie that’s going to bail them out consistently on those types of chances against. If they want to beat Dallas the consistency and attention to detail has to be there to a man every single shift. Can’t hurt yourself with mistakes against a well rounded team like Dallas, you have to make them make great plays to beat you.

Depth will win the series.

Stars 3rd line?

Benn-Seguin-Dadanov

Dallas will be rolling 3 very dangerous lines

Tbh I think the Oilers are banged up as hell, mostly stemming from needing to finish strong to actually make the dance after the period start making guys push through things they normally wouldn't in the regular season.

Hyman is obviously pretty banged up, he's been pretty ineffective on the wall compared to his usual. Kane has a sports hernia. Draisaitl has missed several periods being unable to skate vs Vancouver. McDavid's noticeably slower than normal and can barely shoot the puck. Perry has an ankle / knee thing. Ekholm has been banged up pretty bad all year.

Idk. Standard playoffs stuff. Everyone's banged up. I bet a ton of stars are too, that's the price of making it to round 3.

Oilers have been a great team all year after the start, but since the Bye week they've certainly been more unreliable, even if still good.

They finished it off good against the Canucks, but giving up so many leads throughout the series doesn't bode well against the Stars.

Have to echo most people here, that the deeper team should be the favorite and that is Dallas.

Would be a pretty big feather in the cap to send home so many of the greatest players in the League, and that would have to continue in the finals whether it's Barkov and co. or arguably the best goalie in the world.

If Dallas goes all the way, the certainly earned it.

McDavid shot 5% in the Vancouver series and was also like 40% on faceoffs, which is the lowest he's been in like 7 years. We know he's had a hip/groin thing the majority of the season but now I'm wondering if there's maybe a wrist issue or something. He's still passing well though so I dunno.

Too many low IQ players on the team.
Play with no urgency and slow decision making.
True, the scary part of seeing the pair of Desharnais-Nurse last few moments of game 7, much as they both are willing to block a puck with their face, when the panic button hits, a flub pass or simple play goes out the window, butt clenching to say the least to watch

That's without Hintz. If he's actually able to go for Game 1, we're looking at something like:

Robertson - Hintz - Stankoven
Marchment - Duchene - Seguin
Benn - Johnston - Pavelski
Smith - Steel - Dadonov

with Faksa, Dellandrea, and Bourque in the pressbox.
That's certainly quite the depth, will be a good test for the Oil

Yeah, guy who has 20 points in 12 games in POs apparently isn't a true #1.

So how many teams do you think have this mythica #1 #2 pairing that you're envisioning? Makar-Bouchard? Yeah, Oilers would be pretty good with them. Shocker right there.

He's not a #1 D until he can play with a "lesser than" D and make him look good.

Pair him with Ceci; then we'll talk.

Yes, he's a great Offensive D, but Ekholm carries that line defensively.

Yes, I'd say so.
Hall is dynamic, but also made of glass.
Both like to .... Party too much, so that's a wash.

I think Seguin actually had more serious injuries over his career than Hall but still managed to play almost 150 regular season games more + alot of playoff games

On top of my hat Seguin had his achilles tendon partially cut in 2016 , had a torn labrum in his shoulder in 2017 , one torn in his hip in 2020 and aparently is currently playing through something that will require surgery at the end of the season again .

This is not a smart take at all. Bouchard isn’t a #1 D until he plays 26 minutes a night with a #5 D? By this logic there aren’t any #1 D in the league.

Why would depth win in a series?

Is there a long list of 'deep teams' with absolutely no star power win a bunch of cups?

Dallas and Edmonton had the same offensive output across the roster in the regular season.

We could argue that Miro (who had some injuries this year and otherwise has to actually play defense) and Jason Robertson are in conversations for 'star power'.

The teams that won lots of cups in the last 15 years are Chicago, who had wildly deep teams, Pittsburgh, carried by literally having 5 top 5 picks including 3 centers, 1 D and a HHOF goalie, and Tampa, who kinda cheesed through a bit, but had a wildly complete roster... Dallas is closer to 2021 Tampa than Edmonton is.

I don't see it with Edmonton, because Bouchard ain't Hedman and Skinner ain't MAF. And this isn't a knock on Bouchard, who meshes very well with the crazy point generation of McDraiMan.
