They've hit 30 before, but they aren't perennial 30 goal scorers, or even players who do so frequently. What about my statement is incorrect?

The implication that your interpretation is the prevailing one among fans. You're free to call him a 28 goal scorer, but most people don't care to be that exacting because it's not practical.

On a literal level, Simmond's is a 30 goal scorer because he's accomplished it once. On a practical level, he is not, because he's only accomplished the feat once in his 8 year career

This statement doesn't even follow. The linguistic shorthand is the practical element.

Nice try though. ;)

I don't know why people even reply to him anymore, all he does is enter every single Flyers thread and almost always only has negative things to say about them. Seems like an obsession, honestly.

And to answer you, Smantsaz, a 30 goal scorer and a perennial 30 goal scorer do not necessarily mean the same thing. But if it makes you feel better, feel free to call Simmonds a perennial 29 goal scorer. Oh, the horror.

Please, it's more like 28.5

Sorry, English is my 2nd language ;)

All well and fine.

Think of it like this; the difference between the current Wayne Simmonds and a fictional one that scored ~6 more goals in the previous 5 seasons is less than 5%. In an absolute sense, the fictional Wayne is the only one that has scored 30 goals per season in every instance. In a practical sense, a <5% difference should be beyond notice in regards to on-ice results and relative esteem. It's pointless to argue semantics over the label when the product it would be ascribed to is largely the same as what you would fine worthy otherwise.

We would love Simmonds in Arizona. What would it take? Duclair + what and what?

More than you would want to give up. Simmonds is on a great contract, and is a hell of a player. Not going to come cheap and shouldn't be available.
Agreed, still only 28, 2+ years on a deal with a cap hit <$4m. No way Philly moves him unless they're blown away with an offer.

and posters arguing whether or not he's a 30 goal scorer. Goals the past 5 years: 28, 27(adjusted strike year), 29, 28, 32 and on pace for 30+ this year. The guy's the model of consistency.

Who would they offer?

I don't know. Doesn't make sense why you'd trade him but we could probably one up anyone else.

Ferland for the grit
Frolik or Backlund for the skill
Kylington

Hurt to lose those but Wayne just seems like a guy that would fit perfectly

Not enough. Quantity for quality really

Gio for Simmonds is all we got then. I'd want a plus though.

Like what would you expect back? The Anaheim defense might be the only thing that makes sense then. They are just in a unique position no one else is in
