not if it handcuffs us with Marner it wasnt

LOL. Nothing can "handcuff" us with Marner. He'll be signed. Don't you worry about it. If some plug like Connor Brown or Zaitsev has to go, no big deal. But Marleau still has LOTS of value......especially with Marner.

Marleau is helping make him a good person, as well as a great hockey player.

I still think Bracco + 2nd is fair value for a Rental in Simmonds. Depends on whether or not the Flyers are adamant in receiving a 1st rd pick pick.

I have a tough time believing any of the rumored teams in on Simmonds (Tampa, Boston, etc..) Would give up a 1st for a Rental, especially for Simmonds

Depends on how they value what he brings. What is he right now is obvious; grit and sandpaper to the middle six, can provide a boost on the power play, leadership etc etc. it’s not like that hasn’t been valued at a premium previously. If the teams tied to him believe that is a necessity and they really expect to win or go deep this year then they’d absolutely part with a first rounder I would think.

Yeah but I think if players like Panarin, Duchene, Stone are gonna be out there...teams will want to use their 1st for those type of players over Simmonds.

But I get what your saying, Its def possible. I didnt think Boyle was going to get a 2nd (Even though that was probably more of a desperation move from Nashville's part after the Auston Watson situation)

cant pay everyone 7 million dollars so we need "plugs" like brown.

zaitsev I would love to hear how you plan on getting rid of his contract.

crunch numbers yet or are you playing a videogame?

We do need to go all in. Our assets would be better spent acquiring, for example, Pesce + Ferland. If we can't get a trade for a RHD, maybe then Simmonds becomes an option. We do need a hard-nosed forward and he brings a lot more than that as well, so although I am not ruling it out, I would say it is very unlikely that we make a go at Simmonds.

Sigh. It's been explained 1000 times already.

Not everyone needs "7 million dollars". At all.

We can easily trade Zaitsev to someone if we add a pick. Sucks to lose a 2nd rounder, but done. Brown......at 2.1 million.....is an expensive plug. We can trade him(for a 2nd rounder... ;) )and easily replace him with a 700K plug. Gardiner walks. Hainsey re-signed at say, 2 million.

And Marner can get paid like he SHOULD.

But here......I crunched the numbers for you, as you can't seem to comprehend.

Marleau(6.25) - Tavares(11) - Nylander(7)
Hyman(2.25) - Matthews(11.6) - Marner(10)
Johnsson(2.5) - Kadri(4.5) - Kapanen(3.0)
Plug(700k) - Gauthier(700k) - plug(700k)
Plug(700k)

Rielly(5.0) - Muzzin(4.0)
Dermott(850k) - Hainsey(2.0)
Rosen(700k) - Ozighanov(1.5)

Andersen(5.0)
Sparks(750k)

Add in Kessel's and Horton's salaries and the raise in cap to 83 and LTIR relief, which means we can spend to 88.3 million, and..........

That comes to 87.2 million.

It fits.

OMG.

I’ll do Kapanen for Simmonds at 50 and Gudas. But our capdump would have to be Zaitsev, unless we want to unload Brown’ s 2.1(?). Would you still be interested?

No disrespect but Marleau won’t waive to go to Philly. He wants to win a cup and you guys are kind of starting the rebuild. It would have to be Z or Brown, but then we won’t be re-signing Simmer.

Simmonds at 50% + Gudas for Kappy + Brown, I'd be in on that. I could even see us adding a 3rd or so.

The 50% retention of Simmons means nothing going into a UFA season...unless you want to retain 50% of the contract after resigning? ;)

How? The actual ask on him seems to be around a low 1st + a bit.

There's no meat to the deal. Tymashov looks like an interesting b level playmaker with speed. If you want to switch out him and brown sure but two side dishes dont make an entre. Theres no incentive for philly to move one of the leagues premier net front presence for spare parts.

You know whos got a good shot at scoring 20 on the flyers 3rd line? Kapanen.. He's looking alot more like himself away from matthews.

Brian Boyle just was traded for a 2nd rd pick.....................Give your head a shake. If he doesn't get a first the only and I mean only reason is there's not enough buyers in the market place this season. TB and Boston may go after bigger fish (Panarin, Duschene, Stone). Worse case its a second this season and a conditional 1st next year. Flyers likely want the first this season because of the strength of the draft that's why no deal has happened yet.

He was saying conditonal 2nd this year or 1st next year if they win a round etc

I think panarin is the best rental but the jackets are in it and will hold firm for the old style 3piece. Duchene is next and simmer a tier below the ottowa guys but philly could be making a push so its not like they don't have reason to keep Simmonds.

Kapanen sandin and 2020 1st will pry panarin out of the currently playoff bound blue jackets. When teams balk they'll revisit Simmonds. Star free agents rarely get moved because with increased parity teams are rarely truly all in for one year and willing to pay the price

If thats what they meant, then sure, that makes sense. But the way its worded, it seems to imply they want both.

Simmonds makes almost zero sense at this point. Solid player. style of play would be a welcome addition to their forward group but they are set at RW. Marner, Nylander, Kapanen, Brown, Ennis. Unless it's part of a bigger deal that addresses another area of need this is a non starter
