He’d score at a 30 goal level on the leafs.

I still think Simmonds + Gudas for Kapanen + 2nd works. Gudas is playing at a very very high level right now. I wouldn’t want to move him at all but we won’t sign him in 2 years anyway plus Kapanen would for very well so I’d do it.

Go ahead. Pretend its 4 years ago..

Its not tho.. Simmonds is now overrated

He’s going to score 25 + goals in a down year. He scored 24 goals last year with a broken ankle and torn abdominal muscles. He’s not washed up.
It doesn't mean he is worth Kapanen in any deal. You need to give up that idea. It's not happening.

The thing you are missing is I don't care about the cost, because they have a legitimate chance at a championship and when that's the case you have to go for it .

People on here worry to much about the future and for fans of Detroit, Ottawa , Vancouver etc. That's fine because their teams aren't championship contenders.

The Leafs are championship contenders, they have to go for it

Cost is secondary

that is stupid. what if they fall short of a cup? you can cripple a franchise for the next decade with a couple bad contracts.
Glad you are not GM

Unfortunately we should have traded him last year for Kapanen and a 1st. But I agree. I proposed Simmonds + gudas for Kapanen + 2nd. If you are a down on simmer as the leafs fans are then you take away the 2nd and advantage leafs. If you are still high enough on Simmonds like GMs likely are you keep it and advantage flyers.

will trade straight up for Marleau

These are funny by the same person. There are always ways around this stuff but they will cost. Ain’t no one taking Marleau for a positive asset.

I'd like Gudas.. ..no interest in rentals like Simmonds, we won't be re-signing him, so i would never include Kap in a deal for him.

Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic: Even though the Philadelphia Flyers are in the playoff race, it’s more than likely they will trade pending UFA Wayne Simmonds.
Sources are saying that the Boston Bruins, Tampa Bay Lightning, Nashville Predators and Winnipeg Jets have shown interest.

Would love to see Wayne go to Tampa that way it would be fun to root for the TBL come playoff time but any of the 4 suitors would be okay with me. Highest bidder of course!
He would help all four teams. He would be a beast anywhere and fun to watch.
PS if the Flyers make the playoffs I hope he went out west LOL

Problem is we have no reason to trade Gudas. With Hart we have a shot at the playoffs. About to have Myers in over Hagg or Macdonald should help. Patrick playing well etc. we have a good shot. And gudas would mean a lot to us next year when we would likely just let him walk. He’s prob been our best dman. So we aren’t likely to trade him for just a pick. Maybe not even a late first at this point. We’d want a player. He doesn’t get a guy like Kapanen on his own, neither does Simmonds. So combine them possibly.

The Leafs are just not going to trade Kapanen for a rental. Simmonds will go to a team that needs a RWer AND needs PP help. That is not the Leafs. All Simmonds to Leafs ideas should just end at this point.

If your goal is the playoffs, keep Simmonds as your own rental.

I get the Gudas comments, but again, if Kap is being traded...it's for a solid top 4 RHD (with the Leafs adding depending on return). Trading him with Simmonds as the return is very poor asset management. Simmonds would be playing bottom 6 here, you don't move Kap for that.

I’d rather just trade less and get Gudas. Marincin + 2020 2nd?

Muzzin + Gudas would be a successful tdl

I personally would try and make it worth your while and offer Simmonds (50% retained) + Gudas for Kappy + a cap dump that expires next year. I know it would be hard to give up Kappy but I think the value favors TO here.

Of you are dead set against trading Kappy then replace him with your 2020 1st and a top 3 prospect. That still favors TO

Well that’s why I said gudas too. He’s has term remaining. They may have to trade Kapanen anyway.

I don’t disagree that it’s poor asset management. Usually rentals don’t work anyway and teams are best built by filling holes with good pieces that have term. I guess I’m thinking Kapanen may not be in Toronto too long depending on all the cap issues.

What cap dump? Marleau makes a ton and their other option has so many years left it’s insane.

I’ll do Kapanen for Simmonds at 50 and Gudas. But our capdump would have to be Zaitsev, unless we want to unload Brown’ s 2.1(?). Would you still be interested?

No disrespect but Marleau won’t waive to go to Philly. He wants to win a cup and you guys are kind of starting the rebuild. It would have to be Z or Brown, but then we won’t be re-signing Simmer.
