2001 NBA Playoffs, Game 3, Round 1, Hornets vs Heat
I've been following Hornets/Bobcats/Hornets Basketball (off and on somewhat) for roughly 25 years. This is still to date my all-time favorite Hornets moment. I'm too young to remember 1993 (Mournings shot vs Boston). I was still very much a Hornets fan over everything else and it wasn't until the next spring (when the Hornets left and the Hurricanes made their Finals run) when that changed.
This was a pretty damn stunning upset. The Hornets had their headband thing going, kind of their "answer" to the Bunch of Jerks, since two of the roster players (Jamal Mashburn and PJ Brown) were traded from Miami to Charlotte the previous off-season and reportedly neither player got along with Heat coach Pat Riley and he didn't like players wearing headbands, so this was a way to tell Riley "f*** you".
I was at this game. Easily the loudest I've heard the Charlotte Coliseum. Too bad it wasn't enough to save them from relocation, but shit happens.
Also, this was AC "iron man" Greens last ever game.
