The key is Rask imo. If he plays at or close to the level he has for the last month they will be a tough out for anyone.

They'll goon it up to win one playoff series. Then play Montreal who will skate laps around them and they'll lose again.

Watch out is right. Make sure your jockstrap is on tight when Lucic is out there.

They are 7-5 versus the [Habs] in the last 12 playoff meetings, I will take those odds.

Talk about cherry picking.

And I don't really get what the series in '11 has to do with the situation now. (and of course why you simply leave out the first two games)

After a slow first half of the season, the Bruins have quietly been on a tear. 11-1-4 in the past 16 games. 7 points out of first. Going to be a dog fight between four teams in the Atlantic.

Still like to see the B`s fill a few more holes in the lineup, love to have a playoff tested D man who isn`t as slow as mud and a forward with some scoring touch

Problem is the cap, for a deal to be made, it`ll have to be money in, money out

Going to be tough

Either way, the return of Chara and Krejci were obviously huge, the other issues for their struggles were after Chara went down, within weeks, Krug/Miller/McQuaid and Warsofsky were all injured and this team just clawed and scratched their way through games, were boring as all get out to watch etc...

To be honest, pretty impressive that this team wasn`t at or near the bottom of the league with all the injuries

Even better odds - the bruins are 3W 4L in their last 7 playoff meeting with Montreal... :sarcasm:

If the Bruins keep playing like this into the playoffs, then I think they have potential to make a deep run. Chara isn't as good as he used to be (dude is getting older), and that makes things a lot harder - but I still think this core has a good run in them this season.

I also think it's crazy how some Bruins fans on here seem to think Montreal is a favorable matchup right now. Personally I say bring on the Habs and embrace the rivalry/challenge - but there's no rational way the Bruins wouldn't be considered underdogs.

Maybe that's why we beat them at football nearly half the time

As an Isles fan, they are the top dog in the East IMO. I've thought that for the past 3-4 years pretty much and it hasn't changed, even with the obvious downgrades this season. They are a tough team, last team I'd personally want to meet in the playoffs.

huh......and here all along I thought the Islanders were the team to beat.........now I see there`s a crack in confidence:sarcasm:

I never understand why people act like Montreal squashed Boston last year. Yes they won, yes the Bruins looked like dog ****, but they it was a very close 7 game series with 2 OTs. Could have easily gone the other way. Since Claude has been coach, Chicago is the only team to beat Boston is less than 7 games. This false pretense of Bruins automatically being a cakewalk for Montreal is unfounded and will probably get them in trouble.

I am almost more hopeful about our chances this year than last year. Rask looks unstoppable and the Bruins always play better as the underdog. I also agree that I'd rather go through the metro. None of thr NY teams are particularly scary to me while I do think the Atlantic would be a challenge.

Keith Jones summed it up pretty well a few weeks back with a comment something along the lines of....

"The Bruins are a much better team than their record suggests and imagine the joy of being a team atop the East this year and the reward you get is having to face the Bruins in the first round...."

Imagine it? I'm praying for it! :D

Imagine the bruins, farting around most of the season, suddenly realizing they need to make a push, then realizing they might have to face their nemisis now. Didn't think of that Jonesy?

No one's a pushover in this cap age - and the bruins aren't big and bad anymore...

If you go and ask every team in the East who they would not want to face in round one of the playoffs I can bet you the majority if not all of them would say the Bruins.

Do I think they are going to win a Cup this year?

No.

Did I think they were going to win a Cup in January of 2011?

Not one bit.

I think that most fans outside Boston never thought Boston were done. Tons of Bruins fans did though....just like they did in 2011 during the Series against the Habs....People keep saying Montreal is tough and keep bashing their players and management and yet, Bruins fans were firing Julien and Chiarelli during that 2011 series until....you know...they won at the end. Happens to the best of them I guess....

I don't think we have "IT" this season to be honest. Last 10 games they've played pretty well but overall I haven't seen the Bruins this mediocre in a looong time, I'd probably have to go back to Julien's first season.
I can't quite put my finger on it, I don't doubt the Bs can beat any team but I just don't feel that much confidence as far as surviving 4 series is concerned.

And the Bruins hit like 500 posts that series. Not to take anything away from Price (who did play better than Rask for those 7 games), but a bounce here and there and it's a different story.

Same goes for 2011. Boston won that series on 3 OT goals, if Montreal gets a break along the way or Thomas doesn't rob Gionta in game 5, history is altered.

Montreal and Boston have played each other more evenly over the past 15 years than both fan bases seem to think.

I just posted in the habs out of town thread to watch out for the Bruins.

They're a good team and people need to make note of that.
