OT: Washington Commanders 2025-26 thread | Football is fun again Edition

Welcome to Draft Week. Any predictions or preferences?
Mike Green or trade back (though I suspect Green will be off the board by our pick.. a man can dream).

Edit: Was not aware of the sexual assault allegations. I'll leave the post up for clarity, but I would revise to say that my preference given that is to simply trade back.

Highly doubt Mike Green is on their board. He’s been accused of sexual assault twice (once in high school, once in college) and left Virginia under less-than-clear circumstances which many speculate was related to the sexual assault allegation. He’s never been charged but this front office and organization doesn’t seem like they’ll turn a blind eye to character red flags, regardless of talent.

He’s a premium talent at a premium position and he’s never been charged with anything so maybe they’ll feel comfortable with him after their diligence but I think the chances they’d draft him are only slighter higher than nil.

Edited my post above - With our pick at 29 I haven't been watching as closely as usual and missed that. Was focused on the talent/upside.

While the Ravens have done well in terms of folding in players with character issues with a strong locker room, there's a big difference between a mistake and well.. that. But, in general, I do believe the Commanders now have a strong locker room between Ertz, Wagner, McLaurin, Daniels, Quinn, and others that may allow them to take risks that other teams would not.

Edit: Hat tip to @CapitalsCupReality too.

We have enough needs in enough places that we can just take the BPA at whatever the best player that falls to us is. If its an Edge, great, big need. If its a CB, WR, safety like Emanwori, an OL, LB, even RB like Hampton, we shouldn't pass on the best value that falls to us.

At 29 there's no no way to single in on one favorite player, we need to just draft impact players and if we're both lucky and smart, we will. The Ravens draft impact players late in the draft all the time, from Ray Lewis (26), Ben Grubbs (29) Ed Reed(24) Patrick Queen (28) to Lamar Jackson (32).

Not good news if you're a DC Fan.

Trenches continue to be beefed up and signed long term for Philly. Those are strong offensive linemen.

Doesn't matter that Eagles let 80% of their defense walk. Won't be able to touch Hurts.

Need a strong pass rush.

So send the house for abdul carter, got it

End of the 2nd.

Literally every draft analyst I’ve heard has said some variation of “someone is going to get a steal in Skattebo”… and then proceed to prioject him as a 3rd-4th lol

Yep, that guy has something intriguing.

All in on Skattebo!

I'm sold on name alone.

I'm sure he's never had a 'Skittles' nickname.

Checks out.

I've heard multiple people describe him as someone that's going to be really good but most likely won't have a long career in the NFL because of his frame and playing style. So while he's propably seen as steal early on, if they don't see long-term future for him it's propably not worth it to spend 2nd for him when the class is so good around him.

I've been away for a while because I have no particular axe to grind and no guy that I want to pound the table for -- and not in a bad way.

There are soooo many guys at soooo many positions that could make us better. Accordingly, I'm 100% on the trade down bandwagon if there's a decent trade to be had.

A few caveats: at #29, if we can't trade, I wouldn't love the ORE OT, and I'm also out on character-flag guys like M. Green.

I'd have no issue going RB in the 1st (Hampton) or 2nd (Henderson or Skattebo) if a strong guy is available there, but also happy to wait since the position is so strong overall.

I probably differ from the crowd in that I'm not sold that we have to go DE early -- if at all. Just because this draft is full of good DE prospects, I don't fell like we have to take the 6th or 7th best Edge over the 2nd or 3rd RB or WR or 3rd or 4th best CB. And all of those positions should have good guys available at 61, plus some good IOL options.

(I am also an avowed DE skeptic -- no proof, but it feels like DEs are every bit as boom or bust as QBs -- the 7th DE could be as good or better than than the 2nd DE, but it feels just as likely that they both underwhelm.)

As others have said: In AP I trust. (And I'll trust him even more if he manages to get us some extra draft assets... ;))

Green is a big no from me - he's the kind of guy the old regime takes. The culture is so good right now, don't mess that up.

BPA for me. Would love a CB or Edge rusher if I had to choose.

Yeah, another DB with a lean frame and tackling issues

John Keim's pick: Maxwell Hairston, CB, Kentucky

Washington would love to build a strong offensive line and find an edge rusher and running back but can address those needs later in the draft. With Hairston, the Commanders get another young corner who can play outside with ball skills (six interceptions in two years), short-area quickness and competitiveness. He provides them with a player who can help in sub packages and become a starter at some point.

To be fair, if we're comparing him to Forbes, it wasn't his lean frame, or his tackling issues that were his biggest problem. Forbes main problem was that he couldn't cover anyone, ever. Which was his main job.

Say no to corners who can't cover.
