Well we know Congress is investigating Snyder, but they can't just "force him out". So instead they are putting massive pressure on the other NFL owners, some of whom may be looking for new stadiums in the future, although this is a little late with so many new stadiums already financed throughout the league.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2022/02/22/nfl-congress-stadium-tax-bill/

Allegations of widespread sexual harassment in the Washington Commanders workplace and dissatisfaction with the NFL’s response have revived congressional interest in eliminating a lucrative tax break that professional sports teams routinely use to help fund new stadiums.

On Tuesday, Reps. Earl Blumenauer (D-Ore.), Jackie Speier (D-Calif.) and Don Beyer (D-Va.) reintroduced a bill they co-authored, titled the “No Tax Subsidies for Stadiums Act,” that would do just that, effective immediately upon enactment.

The goal, Speier explained during a phone interview, is to end an unjustified subsidy that she says doesn’t serve the interests of American taxpayers. In doing so, she said, the legislation would also send a signal to the NFL and Commanders owner Daniel Snyder that Congress will not tolerate sexual harassment in their high-profile workplace nor stand idly by as serious allegations are swept under the rug.

“There is no justification for these multibillion-dollar franchises to be eligible for tax-exempt municipal bonds,” Speier said. “This is tax dollars that could be used for any number of really important public-interest programs. Over the course of 20 years, it [represents a loss of] $4 billion — and probably much more.”

Wonder how much other owners will care that Snyder may be bringing this much unwanted scrutiny on their multi billion dollar free ride? Oh by the way, it wouldn't just apply to the NFL, but MLB and NBA/NHL arena's as well... soccer too. Lotta billionaires gonna be pissed at Snyder.

Unless there is proven illegal activity by Snyder going on (so far there is not) congress should not be pressuring anyone. There is a legal system in place for a reason. I want Snyder out, but that’s a real bad precedent if we want the federal government dictating ownership rights because they don’t like someone.

Who ever guessed "too scummy to own a pro sports franchise" would ever be a thing?
Maybe NapoleDan will have an iota of a positive legacy, too.

Never mind the fact that this isn't how Congress actually works, the law that grants massive tax breaks to billionaires to build stadiums so they and a handful of others can get more rich, is the issue here. Why should citizens pay for billionaires play things? Let the billionaires pay for it themselves. The idea that it benefits the greater community has been well debunked.

In terms of Congress role, if they only waited until actual laws were broken to investigate anything, then no new laws would ever be made. The NFL and Snyder have stonewalled them all along.... they are correct to put pressure on them to properly cooperate in the investigation of workplace harassment.

“My question to him is why haven’t you prohibited Snyder from having the franchise?” Speier said. “He’s not conducted himself in a manner that should allow him to continue to own the Commanders. In any other corporation, a board of directors would have booted him out a decade ago.”

Creating/editing laws is one thing. Punishing people without due process is another

That said, why isn’t Mark Cuban being held as accountable for what was happening with the Mavericks?

There are other versions of this type of stuff in other pro sports, as well.

seems like it pales in comparison….

‘Dude for the Suns is under a full court press also.

Feels like systemic misogyny, harassment, and intimidation is a good few steps up from Cuban.

Cubans was bad. He just wasn’t found to be a part of it. And the Suns guy also has some issues.

Point being, bad behaviour — while despicable — won’t lead to anything except a suspension. The league could suspend him forever. Like Pete Rose. And then Tanya will need to decide what she wants to do (aka Marge Schott, Donald Sterling, Jerry Richardson).

Just a minor correction, the NFL never did anything at all to Jerry Richardson. He announced the sale of the team the same day the behavior issues he had paid settlements to his former employees was publicised. There was never any NFL investigation, sanctions, penalty, etc... he just got caught being a sleazebag and quietly sold to get out of the spotlight, the exact opposite of Snyder's approach.

Schott and Sterling, like Snyder will someday, went out kicking and screaming the whole way.

Snyder should never have been allowed to buy the franchise in the first place. His marketing/communications company was built on fraud and he sold it before it cratered. It’d be like letting the guys from Enron buy a franchise if they cashed out before their scheme was uncovered. He should have been compelled to sell years ago.

Also, he’s broken plenty of rules and laws since he’s been the owner. I get the concern about not wanting government interference in private business but I don’t think it’s logica to say Congress shouldn’t have a place here in deciding who can own private businesses when those loopholes these private business owners utilize are funded by the public’s taxpayer dollars.

Not everything is about strict legal consequences. Sometimes people are just bad for business even if they're legally operating.
That’s the leagues call. If the committee deems the laws need to be adjusted, they can do that, and then the league and Dan will need to follow. But this is an investigation not a trial. If they found out he broke the law, then they can move to the DOJ. If it’s not, it is up to the league and the legislature should not be involved

I don't think anyone is saying congress has the legal power to force the league to ditch an owner, or that this is a criminal trial. That's the point. It's about financial pressure via politics.

We need to give up on hope of seeing Snyder gone.

- What he's doing while wrong is not worthy enough to generate enough outrage from the owners to oust him

- Other owners like Jerry Jones have covered up or "paid settlements" to cheerleaders and will not "face justice"

- Even if he leaves, he's just going to step down as CEO and give the team to his wife

Do you work for the Commanders or know someone who does? Genuinely curious.

Except for the reports during SB week of exactly the opposite -- the league and several owners are tired of his bullshit.
And there is zero chance that a move by Congress to suggest turning off the spigot of taxpayer dollars to the Billionaire Boys Club won't further enflame those positions.
The simple fact is, Dan is putting billions of dollars at risk for the other 31 owners -- in the immortal words of Tommy Callahan, "That's gonna' leave a mark."

the question is…..did the NFL quietly tell him it was time to go? I’d think yes.
