was this a blatant hook? led to dallas’ tying goal

If the BJs player doesn't feel the stick with his glove at the 0:03 mark and then clamp down on it as he's going down, the refs likely call a hold because of the way he spun down.

Ref decided to let both go, which is fair, the BJs had all just blown the zone thinking it was gonna get out (something the Stars do often as well, tbh, lol).

Perfect poster boy for a coach challenge for any missed penalty call. I've been advocated for the coach challenge that nullify a goal over a missed call that lead directly to the goal. Let's use that video as an example where the coach could make a challenge. What if it's game 7 of SCF and someone hook him like that? It will tarnish the league forever. Add this example to video replay for missed penalty like goaltender interference.

Assuming official was down in corner on right, should have had a pretty good look. Does seem like CBJ grabbed the stick, but the whole sequence starts with what appears to be a hold tug by Dallas from left side.

Seems like that could just go either way.

Blatant hook and a hold. Call either one. Two negatives cancel out I guess.

Dallas got the benefit of the refs feeling bad about the Mavs trade this morning.

I too would like to hear the explanation about the high stick goal. We have video of Dadonov's stick appearing to make contact with the puck above the crossbar. But then the refs said the call on the ice was confirmed rather than stands, so I think there's an explanation out there besides "we just didn't see it."

Ideally we’d have an angle from the other side but that looks like Johnson goes down mighty easy and tries to chicken wing the stick.

Wouldn’t be surprised to see a call on that but IMO, from what I can see in that replay, good non-call.

I do not understand why the horizontal stick “hook” mostly applies against forwards and rarely against d-men trying to escape their own zone.

Yes. You could even see his jersey get stretched from being grabbed.

But Columbus was up by a goal so game management reffing was in full effect.

If anything was going to get called here it was probably the initial grab/tug by Harley. They let that go, then they let Johnson grabbing the stick go.

Johnson had plenty of time then to get back up and easily break up the pass across, but he stopped playing to try and sell the call.
