I saw Selänne live in late 1998 and he was really fast. But that season he had taken a backseat goal-scoring wise (or perhaps more accurately, shot opportunity wise) to his line-mate Kariya, who immediately post-Suter liked to hang around the high slot and just fire tons of mid-distance shots. He had 429 shots that season, 86 more than the 2nd best player (Jagr), but Selänne still led the league in goals.
