Was Krejci's glove-down legal?

It's a pretty bang-bang play. I don't see much wrong with it. He caught it and let it go immediately. The only thing I notice is he throws it into open space between Staal and the other Hurricane against the boards which results in the 2 on 1. It's still a reach but Kreji is a veteran in the game, probably got the benefit without a doubt. Calls even up throughout the year, refs blow calls every now and then - I'd hardly argue that it's biased. Ended up being a huge win for them, especially with the Lightning losing to the lowly Sens.

You said in the quoted post: If you can point to me where it says he cannot hand pass to himself, I will accept that you are correct

Well?
Well you haven't shown to me that it says in the rules that he cannon pass the puck to himself. You showed that it wasn't a play off of his knee, which I never claimed it was. He caught the puck and dropped it to himself. He didn't even complete 1 stride while having the puck in his hand, so it does not constitute "skating with the puck".

"He's placing the puck!"

lol

It doesn't say he can't pass to himself specifically. It does say hand passes are fine unless they allowed a team to "gain an advantage".

Would you not consider tossing it past the guy positionally set up in the neutral zone to make a stick check or impede Krejci's forward progress to be an "advantage"?

You're asking me to do your homework for you here, even after I've already linked you to the information you need.

Here it is: 67.1 Handling Puck - A player shall be permitted to stop or “bat” a puck in the air with his open hand, or push it along the ice with his hand, and the play shall not be stopped unless, in the opinion of the on-ice officials, he has deliberately directed the puck to a teammate, or has allowed his team to gain an advantage, in any zone other than the defending zone, in which case the play shall be stopped and a face-off conducted (see Rule 79 – Hand Pass). Play will not be stopped for any hand pass by players in their own defending zone.

This rule was specifically put in place this year to address situations exactly like the one we are discussing. We had a whole thread on it last month, which I linked for you in the previous post which you did not read.

I just want some consistency. You're telling us that Sedin wasn't trying to gain an advantage by grabbing the puck on one side of himself and bringing it around the goalie and to the other side. Evidently that counts as 'dropping' it.

Right, except that's not the exact quote of the rule. The exact quote is "if he catches it and skates with it, either to avoid a check or to gain a territorial advantage over his opponent, a minor penalty shall be assessed...". He did not skate with it.

There is a 9 page thread about a missed penalty. HF wonders why Bruins fans say the board is against their team. Holy hell.
Or there’s 9 page thread because certain fans refuse to acknowledge that the play in question was clearly officiated incorrectly. Bruins fans wonder why HF posters say they are extremely biased about anything regarding their team. Holy hell.

The self-pass rule did not exist in 2011. In the post you just quoted, I pointed out that it was added this year.

But you said that shouldn't have been a penalty, that it was ok under the current rules. Stop moving the goal posts.

It wasn’t a penalty because Sedin caught the puck and dropped it to the ice immediately (not threw it forward to get around a defender).

Is that not obvious enough? Are you suggesting that he should have had a delay of game penalty there?

''All I'm saying is that this is a stupid, pathetic thread based on something that's let go all of the time in a game where much more obvious penalties were missed, like this one.''

After saying 'All I'm saying' you proceed to not only continue this 'pathetic' thread further which was something you didn't want to happen evidently, but you keep trying to move the goalposts yourself. It's not a coincidence the clear majority is of the thought that Krejci did break a rule in the NHL rulebook and it wasn't called, which was the premise of the whole thread in the 1st place. You're fighting against your own argument right now.

He carried it around the goalie! He undoubtedly had his hand on the puck longer than Krejci.

Laughable that you would argue one is a 'textbook' penalty but not the other.

"Dropping" something means you release it into freefall. If your body is in motion at that moment, yes, the object will have an EQUAL amount of forward momentum.

"Throwing" something means you release it with forward momentum. If your body is in motion at that moment, the object will accelerate and create distance between it and yourself.

This play obviously involved the latter. It's right there in the video. Refusing to admit that is just silly. You can't "drop something forward" without throwing it, that's a nonsensical concept.

Yeah, no ****... it's a blown call. That's the entire point.

If you don't see this as a blown call, either as a simply a black-and-white stoppage or a discretionary penalty, you are simply wrong and there's no helping you at this point.

We'll, you are assuming everything remains constant, but if Krejci is decelerating after dropping the puck, it will appear that the puck was accelerating away from him. The defenseman is clearly decelerating turning to the ref to complain. Krejci crosses over after dropping the puck and then accelerating to catch back up with the puck from the red line to blue line.

Dumb post. How am I trying to move the goalposts? I've been consistent from the start that this is something in the grey area and not a 'textbook' penalty and that far worse things are missed every game and that this is a joke of a thread fueled by the same people who get salty and start threads about the Bruins all the time.

Krejci was moving but never even took a full stride before releasing it with very little umph. The times i’ve seen penalties called in this situation was because they held on too long or they actually threw the puck further than just in front of them. Good non call IMO. These plays happen multiple times a game. I don’t want the refs calling a penalty or stopping the play on plays like these. It will slow the game down and nobody would have given a shit if Heinen hit the post.

What are you talking about?

Sedin VERY clearly dropped the puck in front of himself, between him and Thomas. The puck rolled behind Thomas because he stepped up to deliver the (hilarious) body check. You can see the puck land in front of Thomas, plain as day, in the final replay in the clip you posted.

This thread might set the all time record for people seeing things that flat-out didn’t happen.
