This year seems like a goal orgy in the NHL; then you have the PWHL.

Three finals, three OT games, winning team scored 3, 2, and 2 goals.

I'm all for supporting the local team but damn....this can't be good for the PWHL's outlook given the regular season GPG is 2004 NHL level.

It's quite a contrast anyway.

Makes me appreciate Oilers games even more.

Why the need to compare the PWHL to the NHL? The PWHL is in year two of its existence. Games are relatively low scoring but that doesn't mean the women are playing trap hockey...

That would be better for them rather than just the low scoring because of other reasons

It's quite absurd that every game goes into OT. No different than every game being 7-5 affairs

Goalie talent has been ahead of scoring talent in the women's game for a while now (as it was in the NHL not too long ago), at some point it will flip, it's just the natural cycle of things
I think the issue might be that women lack the upper body strength to wire a puck at a velocity close to what the men do, but the women goalies play at a relatively higher level?

Do you juice women's sticks or severely reduce equipment size for female goalies?

I don't think you need to do anything but wait. As more and more women play the game, there will be more and more talent. It's already increased pretty significantly the last 10 years

Well according yo CBC sports website, it is bigger than NHL playoffs, it had more articles and it made me sick.

Oh no. Can I suggest that you join a hockey forum where you can follow the NHL playoffs?

They need skill coaches and time. The elite players are spread out across 6-8 teams and it'll take time to raise the playing level, especially if they keep expanding. Often times I've seen the women make good plays but be unable to complete them due to lack of skills. I'd love for them to have access to skills coaches full time like many pro organizations do.

The goalie talent wasn't ahead of the scoring talent. It was all coaching.

Marie Phillip Poulain and her wife are fun to watch.

I stopped watching when Victoire got booted, but yeah. It seems easier to coach a smothering defense in the womens game.

The PWHL powers-that-be are THRILLED with extra time, as it gets them more social media attention that is crucial to the growth of a new sports league. If you would spend any time familiarizing yourself with the fanbase of The P', you'd realize the game on the ice is far less important than the revelry in the stands and the traffic on Instagram & TikToc & other popular media sites. Their core demographic lies in youth: late millennials & younger down to primary school ages, predominantly female (cisgender & transgender), most following & attending the women's games for social & emotional reasons more than for "a love of the game." It's not just skill levels that differentiate the PWHL from the NHL; each business is focused on "giving the fans what they want" (in varying degrees of success) while the "wants" are noticeably different.

Ya what weird topic, thinking OT finals games is bad for the PWHL’s outlook.

And how big is that fan base? It's very limited. So limited that the PWHL would abandon it in a heartbeat if they could capture more of the mainstream audience.

Believe me, I have noticed the differences in the crowds of women's sports and even men's soccer here in NA . Not hard to miss.

Women’s sports is always generally a smaller crowd, no matter where you look, it’s nothing something new, that just you noticed lol.

PWHL is thrilled with their new league, it’s just a poor thread topic, thinking OT is a poor outlook for the PWHL.
