Gets worse with each passing day.

Based on his Athletic interview, Jake and Red Wings org seemed to be at odds about his health. Knowing what we saw what happened to Jake in Sweden, flying across the world shortly after that happened and what we have learned in the sports world in terms of concussions and the affects they can have, longer lasting concussion effects could of been the issue.

Which if that was the reason, we had to get rid of this supposed malcontent, it makes this deal look even worse, and it already looks terrible.

Shame on the Wings for not doing better due diligence across the board. Really messed this one up.

Walman, Seider, and Edvinsson all have one goal. Walman has 2 more assists than Seider in 2 more games. Him leading all Red Wings D in the raw scoring stats seems extremely misleading. Plus if he was still here he’d probably be playing 3 or 4 minutes less per game than he is in SJ.

I’m reaping the benefits of owning him in multiple fantasy leagues but let’s be somewhat objective about the situation at least.

Sure, Jake is on a bad Sharks team, so he is getting a big opportunity to compile stats, while the team is losing. But before everybody goes throwing that bit of info into the discussion, does anyone think Chiarot, Petry, Holl or Gus could go into the same situation Jake is in right now and even come close to producing the same?

I don't.

Here's the thing for me. Without knowing why exactly he was traded (which we likely never will) it's impossible to have an informed opinion on it.

Even with differing perspectives on how good Walman is, there's no getting around that Yzerman gave up a 2nd to move a viable NHL defenseman. That's never good. So obviously there was some other factor at play.

If it was a behavioral issue, I'd need to know what it was. Did the Wings react too quickly? Could they have worked it out? Could they have tolerated it for a bit and gotten a better return? Or was it really best to get him off the team ASAP?

I don't put much stock in the Trouba thing because it would require the Rangers grossly misleading Yzerman and then bailing at the last second. And the Wings wouldn't need to be roster/cap compliant in that moment anyway would they?

If Walman's next contract is suspiciously short, there's probably something up with his professionalism. If not, he either took advantage of his 3rd chance and straightened himself out, or Yzerman overreacted.

Either way it doesn't really matter how he does on San Jose.

We're still just awful at exiting the defensive zone and until his recent points streak, we were the last team in the NHL to have a defender score a goal (he is still the only defenseman on our team with a goal). And our defense is not even remotely physical at all.

Anyhow, the point of my original post (since deleted) was not to troll your board at all, but just to check in and say that even though many of you were glad to be shod of him, he's still an upgrade for our team which fields the worst defensive corps in the league and warts and all, he's been helpful to the squad. Maybe not good enough to be in your Top 4, but we're still at the very beginning of a rebuild that probably will be drafting high lottery for at least the next three drafts until before we start to come out of it.

But he's also +4 on a very bad team, it's not just scoring

You are good man, this whole Walman trade has been a tough digest for Wings fans. Not surprised at all Sharks fans like the guy already.

I just see those two big games he had to really pump the numbers. Not that they shouldn't be counted but how has their schedule looked? Did they play the rangers twice?

Maybe they weren't trying to troll but the tweet surely was. That entire "oh he would be the wings best dman right now", is just nonsense. Like we haven't seen Walman on this team.

Blues, Ducks (twice), Jets, Avs (twice), Kings (twice), Knights, Stars. Not a real murderer's row. Vegas and Winnipeg blew us off the ice. Other scores are closer, but in most games we've been scored on early and often and then the other team played more conservatively once they got the lead.

Probably the worst trade Yzerman ever made. Losing Walman AND Ghost for a blue line that can't score at all... Imagine how much better we would be if you swap out Petry and Holl for Walman and Ghost! The money is basically the same...

Except no ones taking petry and holl lol ... I have np moving walman to give edvinsson and johansson bigger roles. Ill never understand having the need go attach a 2nd to move him

If anything we should have got a 2nd sent back for walman

He was moved mainly because Yzerman was trying to get Trouba. And he was the only dman with any value on the team outside of Ed/Mo. SJ probably wanted to wait and Yzerman wanted to get it done quickly so he added the 2nd. Then Trouba falls through and the team is left with this... He did not shop him around, and he had no interest in trying to "fix" his game in Detroit. He's an extremely stubborn GM, and that's how you end up with moves like this

fans criticize this trade as if yzerman didnt first ask around for anything including a 7th before he payed a 2nd to move him ? there was either an off ice issue , or eventually sjs are going to kick something back ! how dumb do people think yzerman is ? the guy that built a dynasty (good as it can get with a cap) in tbay and that has now hit a home run in draft after draft after leading red wings to 3 stanley cups is now seen as somebody , along with his staff of ex nhlers , that doesnt know what hes doing when making a trade ?

* Rangers GM calls Yzerman -
"Steve, I want to move Trouba and I doubt he would put his hometown Detroit team on his no trade, but we have to move quick, you have 1 hr."
Steve "OK, just need to open up some cap space"
*Steve calls Sharks GM -
"Mike, I need to open some cap, take Jake Walman."
"No"
Yzerman panicking"Please, I don't have time to shop him around, I will thrown in a second rounder?"
"Fine" Sharks GM starts laughing after hanging up.
* Yzerman calls Rangers GM back up -
" OK, ready to do the Trouba trade"
Rangers GM "Sorry, Jacob got wind of the deal and put Detroit on his no trade list, no deal"
Yzerman hangs up phone and openly weeps.

there was no need for yzerman to move walmans cap him immeadiately . and if there were he would have gotten something in return unless there was an off ice issue

There wasn't a need looking back because deal fell through. I don't think anyone really thinks he cleared Walman's cap because he wanted Gustafsson or Tarasenko, they were backup plans. And unfortunately very bad ones lol
