W Ilya Protas - Windsor Spitfires, OHL (2024, 75th, WSH)

And long story short, I like a lot of what Ilya Protas does, he's an excellent prospect. But right now a lot of the plays that he makes are "junior plays" that won't be there in the NHL,
While I don't disagree with this it's a sentiment that can be shared for any top prospect in the CHL. The bottom half of the league is filled with guys (especially defenders and goalies) who are functionally playing a different sport than the top offensive players.
and he's also benefiting from a big physical advantage that he has over CHLers, which won't be possible to maintain to the same extent once he starts going up against NHLers and pros.
On this point once again don't disagree per se but
1) for the most part he doesn't use his size as much as you'd think in the CHL. It's not like he just skates through people for his goals
and
2) 6'5 220 is still very big by NHL standards

Keeper GM wondering at what rank would Protas be drafted if he was available for the 2025 draft!? Top 15?! Top 10!?

Considering he was born in July, he’s like 3-4 months older than some prospects who will go in that range..!

Another update: 20 points in 7 playoff games which leads the league, 43 in his last 14 including the tail end of the regular season. Windsor has outscored their playoff opponents 38-13 and they've only lost a single game so far.

Some reasons for excitement...

Protas and Greentree have been wrecking balls this year. Fans have got their monies worth at those games. Washington better be giving their amateur scouts a raise for the Protas pick.
