It doesn’t complicate the process at all.

They wanted 18 forwards at camp, one of them wasn’t able to participate so they brought in another. They just need to cut 1 extra player now, doesn’t overcomplicate anything.

Exact same as with Brunnicke. They wanted 10 D, when he was unable to participate they brought another along.
I think the reason they don’t select some of these high picks to begin with is they know they’re going to have some very tough cuts of very good prospects with a lot of pedigree and they don’t want that whole circus at the end of camp, so I think it does complicate it.

If they’re gonna now pick him for the team, fair enough. They’re admitting to a mistake, but otherwise it seems kind of stupid to bring in a controversial likely cut just so you can have an extra full line as opposed to lacking one player for your 5th line.

It seems like that’s more of an issue with how you perceive things than what’s actually happening

He needs to be on the team otherwise it’s just straight galaxy braining.
Agreed, especially since he has a very complete game - size, skating, hands, passing, shot, net drive, compete, he does it all well. You could put him in all sorts of roles, I can see him playing equally well in the top 6 or the 4th line for Team Canada.

Glad to see him added to the selection camp, but he should've been there in the first place, and the fact that he wasn't makes me think Team Canada brass could easily pass on him. But IMO they're overthinking it if he doesn't get a spot. Seems to me that often Team Canada try to plan out these perfect lines with what they see as specific complementary skills and clear roles, and take lesser talents for line building reasons. But then the tourney actually starts, their plans are confronted with the real world, coaches take blenders to the lines, and now you've taken less talented players for not great reasons.

Bahahaha what a tucking joke. Why not just invite the roster that you plan to have instead of this charade.

I hope they lose in an embarrassing way and I hope he absolutely goes insane on the OHL.

Honestly, I wouldn't put too much stock into what Team Canada is doing these days.

Sennecke seems like he's going to be a friggin' stud...

Team Canada got cute last year, and left some top scorers off the team, including Rehkopf. What happened? When the chips were down they couldn't score, and were eliminated in the quarter finals.
It looks like they are setting up for it to happen again.
I'd prefer a different GM each year, instead of the same decision makers every time.

HC has to be one of the worst galaxy brain selection committees around but the embarassment of riches often gives them so much slack it doesn't matter. Last year was not one of those years and this could be another.

Some really puzzling decisions theast couple wjcs

Rehkopf was on the team last year but agree with the sentiment.

He was initially in the press box is probably what he was referring to
No, I mistakenly thought he was left off. I mixed him up with another big scorer who was left off. I think they had left a few top scorers off the team as usual.

It's like their "brain"trust took lessons from Bobby Clarke picking Rob Zamuner for Team Canada, and tripled down on that.

He would also be a natural fit with Ritchie as the team is really lacking chemistry.
